John Mayer Spends A Late Night Out To Play His First Gig Since Katy Perry Breakup! Watch HERE!

We feel so bad for John Mayer!

Breakups are always hard, but let's face it- losing Katy Perry is worse than average. She's kind of a goddess.

But John is getting right back on the horse (or in this case the guitar), performing with his band The John Mayer Trio on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

It looks like he's really pouring himself into his music. John always makes those kind of pained faces when he plays guitar solos, but do we detect a little more sadness than usual?

John may not be the best boyfriend but you can't say he's not good at his job. He's a really good guitar player. He writes good songs and he's not bad as a singer. That was a good cover of "After Midnight". It's a JJ Cale song that Eric Clapton made famous. The more John goes into bluesy rock territory the more I like him. I like those "deep" well written bluesy songs with a complex, soaring guitar solo in the middle of it like Clapton and John do them. I love Clapton's album "Journeyman". I like several songs from John's last two albums like "Shadow Days" and "Queen of California". As a fan of Katy too, it's kind of a bummer to see them break up but it's probably for the best. Bluesmen have been known to have tortured souls like Katy said one time. Maybe that side of John was too much for her to deal with. I guess Katy is in the former girlfriend category now and John might be doing a cover of Clapton's song "Old Love" on his tour. Who knows, maybe his relationship with Katy might inspire him to write an all time classic song like "Layla" which was about one of Clapton's girlfriends.

Tasty, tight and almost jazzy version of that tune. Is that an old Roland keyboard?
Mayer's learning to punctuate with his axe even though his volume was louder than the blend. What a great group of musicians. That song popped.
