#NoKidsPolicy - Please Read!

| Filed under: Personally PerezBaby Blabber

A message directly from Perez:

"This comes from my heart, after much thought.

You may have recently heard about the "#NoKidsPolicy", a movement spearheaded by several Hollywood stars asking media outlets to avoid using photos of the children of celebrities.

Some of you may be aware of Perezitos.com, my website dedicated to celebrity families, parenting and the beautiful blessings that are children.

Some of you may also be aware that I am humbled and honored to be the father to a one year old son.

The "#NoKidsPolicy" intersects my personal and professional worlds in a very complex way, and I've been thinking about how to best publicly address the movement for a while.

If you know me, you know I am a fierce youth advocate. I am a member of the board of directors of the Vh1 Save The Music foundation. I have been actively involved with GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, and have spoken to teens at their leadership conference multiple times. I have even written a children's book, "The Boy With Pink Hair", which to this day is the thing I have done professionally of which I am most proud.

I strongly support all legislation, some championed and initiated by celebs, that helps protect children.

And, quietly, I have instituted my own internal "Kids" policy over the last few months and changed my practices. However, I realize that now is the time to speak publicly and address where I stand on this important issue.

Last week, People magazine released their thoughts on the "#NoKidsPolicy". In many ways, they are the bar of the celebrity news industry and you either fall below it or you raise yourself up to it.

I am choosing to raise the bar and follow their lead!

I want to echo some of their points and explicitly state what my sites will and will not do going forward.

Henceforth, all of my five websites…

- Will NOT post even the most happy-looking "paparazzi" photos of the children of celebrities whose parents object to such photo practices
- WILL post photos of any children of celebs if their parents take them to a red carpet, fashion show, media event or something of the like where it is expected and understood they will be photographed
- Will NOT post any photos whatsoever of any children going to or leaving school
- WILL post photos of children that celebs post themselves on social media, photos of children whose parents include them on reality television or do not object to them being photographed by paparazzi at family outings. Many celebs "stage" these pictures and then sell them to paparazzi themselves. Countless do this, and there's no need to name names.

Additionally, I am instituting a policy internally and sharing it publicly in the hope others will follow. Henceforth, all of my sites will NOT post any photos of celebrities at funerals or going to pay their respects to someone.

After the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, paparazzi was camped outside the home of his longtime girlfriend and mother of his three kids. That just made an already painful time even more painful for her. To have to deal with photographers outside your apartment after their children's dad died - no one should have to endure that added suffering.

And it saddened me to see that so many mainstream media outlets ran photos of celebs, like Cate Blanchett and JustinTheroux, going to visit Hoffman's fiancee.

I did not run any of those photos. Nor did I run them when the same thing happened to Michelle Williams.

Hopefully other outlets can respect the feelings of HUMANS who happen to be famous when they are in times of mourning.

I'm not perfect. I'm not a saint. I have made many mistakes in the past. I continue to make them. I will make them in the future.

I'm trying to do better. My intentions are pure.

I started blogging 10 years ago, back in September of 2004, because I love pop culture and am fascinated by celebrities.

I love children.

I want to do my part to make things better for children.

I want to do my part to make things better for all of us.

I'm not trying to be Oprah.

I'm just trying to be the best Perez possible.

With the utmost sincerity,

P.S. I know this was long. Thank you for reading it all!"

Way to go, Perez! I think it's great you're doing this. Some people on this site give you a hard time for your old ways, and say that you haven't changed, but I truly believe you have. It may takes years for those people to come around, but if you keep it up, they will warm up!!!

  4. JPMartinez says – reply to this

    Great job, Perez! That's awesome!

    Amen Perez , you're the best !

I guess better late than never… they asked you forever ago, I wonder what finally made you decide.

  7. k says – reply to this

Good for you, I always about to leave this site because of the overwhelming clash of opinions. It wasn't becoming a fun place to be around. This is a step closer in the right direction. Definitely.

  8. Kate says – reply to this

Been a long time fan of your site. Great to see you setting an example and going the extra step to respect those in mourning. Keep up the good work!

  9. Tschitchat says – reply to this

Let it go! Let it go! Let it go!

  11. lovelovelove says – reply to this

i dont think this will pass. their is to much money to be made. (remember how you acted 10 years ago) their is so one is who broke, and needs money, and likeyou didnt care 10 years ago…someone feels just like you…karma goes full circle

  12. 12

good for you for instigating positive change and good for you to admitting to making mistakes, everyone makes them but not everyone can admit to it. Keep moving forward and pushing media to try and put human beings instead of money first. Really hoping there can finally be some integrity in whats being published

  13. deb says – reply to this

Good. Hopefully more will follow. We don't need to see pictures of "celebs" children in private moments.

  14. Bette says – reply to this

Horseshit. No-one will be surprised if Mongo committed suicide because of you. It doesn't matter what you do to your appearance - you're still the same egotistical sociopathic rancid bog on the inside.

Re: IhatePerez – You Are Vile And Full Of Hate. Accusing Someone Of Pedophilia Just Because You Hate Their Views, Lifestyle, Gender, Sexuality Etc. Makes Light Of Real CRIMINALS Who Prey Upon Children!!! Its Not A Joke Or Some Form Of Insult. I Pray People Like You Never Get A Platform To Spread Your Disgusting Hate! The World Would Shine So Bright, If There Wasn't So Much Fucking Shade Being Thrown! Go Crawl In A Hole Til You Learn How To Function Like The Rest Of Us!

  16. PEREZ IS A POS says – reply to this

Perez told Britney Spears to kill herself, claimed Michael Jackson's death was just a publicity stunt, called Paul Walker a paedophile and said Adam Sandler's kids were ugly.

Anyone who defends him is a piece of shit too.

  17. Way2Go says – reply to this

Good for you Perez! As humans, we all work to be better people. I fully support you and think you are setting a great example!

  18. Stan ballard says – reply to this

    Dear Perez -
I applaud your efforts to incorporate a human quality to the world of pop culture. I love looking at pictures and reading articles about my favorite stars because it takes me to a place that let's me unwind and have fun yet to your point - there is a limit and should be limit to what can be shown on the web/ magazines ( kids leaving school or at the airport looking terrified or the classless pictures of Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson and countless other celebrity death pictures . I even really thought the way you handled the personal struggle with lady gaga with a lot of dignity . It's a lesson we all need to learn - people are not products or items . Thanks again :) stan

  19. viclyd says – reply to this

Isn't it amazing what becoming a parent can do to you? Children start teaching us things right from day one. Very impressed by this

  20. Mary says – reply to this

I applaud your efforts despite the hypocrisy of the #NoKidsPolicy. In fact, one of the major champions of the policy drudges out their three children during Oscar campaigning season for family photo ops, and then their children quietly disappear after the season is over — you're readers are not fools, we know what's going on. However, your additional efforts to eliminate sad news - funerals - is absolutely fantastic. This #NoKidsPolicy is interesting; actors open the door, yet don't want the consequence.

  21. ms trudy says – reply to this

you were going to stop bullying people too….. that didn't go so well. so is this just another bunch of bullshit your selling only to show your true colors a couple months down the road?

  22. Tracey says – reply to this

WTG, Perez. Keep doing the right thing!

  23. Michelle says – reply to this

ILU perez. ive seen you evolve. ive seen you earn your respect. this letter is very heartfelt and sincere. i can feel that. youve proved to be quite the upstanding, gossipper! loves it!

  27. Karen says – reply to this

Amazing! Very well written! You have evolved so much. Bless you Perez! Keep up the incredible work we love to read!

  28. 28

I just can't find any respect or regard seriously anything you say because you are a grown man that exceeds 35 yet you write immaturly as though you are a tween. Your posts are very unprofessional and way too hyper-sexualized. It is especially disturbing when you are referencing these kids/very young adults. You are a father now, have you not considered how embarrassing he may find this as he gets old enough to understand? I would be mortified if one of my parents wrote the crap you have. It is very selfish of you to not consider his dignity and the possibility of getting picked on at school because of his creepy father's inappropriate posts. Seriously Perez it is time to start acting and posting like an adult. I am also certain if you do, people may start acknowledging you with some regard when you do have something of value to express instead of the eye rolling many might be doing now.

  29. Michele says – reply to this

Good for you, Perez. It's really heart warming to see someone change, and striving to do better. I would also suggest, since we're on this topic, that it might be a good idea for you not to post pics of your beautiful little boy. He is precious, and I just feel he deserves to be a normal kid. I know you're proud of him (and so you should be) but there are a lot of creepy people out there. I only know if he were my child, I would not post public pics. Of course it's your right to do whatever you want. It's awesome that you want to make a difference in this world.

  30. cat says – reply to this

So proud Perez, thank you for taking a leading role and doing something about this. I will be sad to not see those cute faces but i completely understand why this must happen!!!! Good for you

  31. D says – reply to this

As my grandmother would say, "Good on you." This continued growth and self/professional awareness does look good on you. #NoKidsPolicy

  32. MMZ says – reply to this

Good for you Perez! And for all the HATERS comments…you're hilarious! WHY ARE YOU ON HIS SITE??? I know I wouldn't visit ANY website if I had so much HATE for it!!!!

  33. 33

Good for you! I hope you extend this to your own child and allow him to grow up in private. No child deserves to be made into a public spectacle.

  34. Sam says – reply to this

I admire this as a mother and as a fan of celebrities!
thank you for your honesty and thank you for standing up for whats right!

  35. 35

"From the heart, after much thought…" ?????? Please. Stop trying to make people think this is something YOU came up with. You're following suit because the other sites were doing it PLUS you don't want Kristen Bell to hate you. If you would have posted this announcement RIGHT AFTER Kristen and Dax's statement, you would have been a hero. But you didn't. You are FAR, FAR, FAR from Oprah. The question is… will you continue to use your own son for website hits? Of course you will.

  36. Alien says – reply to this

Re: IhatePerez – You are a douche bag.

  37. Jay says – reply to this

Perez , I'm very Proud of your statement you could of not said it any better! As a parent myself to 3 beautiful young boys I agree with you!…. Continue what you do BEST PEREZ :)

  38. e says – reply to this

Can I just say from one stranger to another, Im very proud of you and the position you have taken in regards to posting photographs of celebrities children AND for your commitment to being the best YOU, you can be.

Im the first person to put my hand up and say i love the celeb gossip sites but sometimes they go too far…children should not be pursued no matter who their parents are and people should be respected and treated with dignity in times of loss and grief.
I admire you as you have humbly admitted your failings in the past and have made changes to improve yourself…well done…Our baby boys are the same age…mine having just turned 1 today (March 5th) and he is a constant lesson to me and reminder to better myself everyday as it will be me he turns to for leadership and life lessons…isn’t that scary and an honour all in one. Congrats on your baby boy and congrats on being so brave in being human and fabulous all in one…

  41. Maria says – reply to this

Yes Perez way to go. Been reading blog from the start. Yes we all make mistakes. SO happy for you and your family. Good move in the right direction for everyone.

  42. unanimous says – reply to this

I've never left a comment on anything, ANYTHING. But this was so humbling and inspiring to read. Your life has been a great example to speak to not living out your past, you have matured so beautifully. You showed that you may have to compromise financial gains but never comprise your character. What a fantastic example that doing the right thing, can in fact pay off. Thank for being a role model, because whether you choose to be or not, you are. Great job!!!

  43. JRock says – reply to this

    Re: UNeed2TakeSeveralSeats

Amen! Some people really do just sit behind their keyboards spewing hate to make themselves feel that they are of better worth. News flash, I have been visiting Perezhilton.com since the beginning and that whole paragraph you ('IHatePerez') drafted up, I have NEVER seen Perez write something so disgusting even when he was in his 'bully' stage. You are no better then anyone and if anything you just proved that you are probably worse off then everyone.

To Perez, keep up the great changes you are making. I have seen great improvement in you and I truly hope that none of the negative comments you see bring you down or second guess yourself.

  44. JessD2935 says – reply to this

Perez, this is amazing. I love the time and thought you clearly have put into this issue. You are the best celebrity reporter out there. This is why you are the only source for celebrity news and gossip that I read! I think many people will appreciate your brave steps towards making a change! This clearly shows your amazing character, and big heart. Love you Perez <333

  45. 45

But you're still going to keep bullying people, especially those who have a differing opinion about gays. It's all talk.

  46. misse says – reply to this

Well said. Glad to read this.

  52. CanadianCutie says – reply to this

Awesome blog. Great statements, very heartfelt.
I fully agree, celebs ask to be in the spotlight by choosing their professions but they do NOT choose that life for their family and friends. They are entitled to want their children to feel safe at the playground, coming & going to school, etc. Thanks for being a responsible parent AND a responsible blogger, Perez.

  53. Kathy says – reply to this

Perez, Why can't these stars w/their product pushing endoresements…dresss the children in a few sets of "play clothes". YES! I mean wear the same clothes repeatly. Is that something they would sacrifice for the sack of their children…..The pictures would look the same, you wouldn't be able to date the pictues, and no one would what the child is wearing because they are wearing the same thing my "kid" is wearing. White converse, levi's and an "non endorsed" top. Why is the onous put on the consumer to boycott.

  54. Shannon says – reply to this

Bravo Perez! I've been a reader for a long time, it is great to see you take this stance. Blessings to you and your son <3

  55. Janine R says – reply to this

  56. shirley says – reply to this

Im happy that you & People Magazine are starting a move like this but why not go a lil further & refuse to show celebrities wearing "DEAD ANIMALS" on their bodies? Imagine the change you and others could make? LESS animals being butchered for fashion…PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT :) our kids should live in a world were "LIFE' is appreciated no matter how big or small.

Re: Mary – i struggle with this idea as well. I get that celebrity kids are separate human beings from their parents. BUT sorry they come as a package, like it or not, thats just the reality of it. When celebs are preggers and posing with there bumps then except when baby is born, there should be no photographs, delusional!! I hope it works out for everyone, all we can do is try and change and see what happens.

    Re: LQQkThrewU

Very well written and SO TRUE. I often wonder if Perez has hired a person who writes for most, if not all his blogs.

He has FIVE blogs and now has a baby. I don't think he's able to write for that many blogs and be able to tend to his lil one.

I'm mom to 3 teens and to a 10 month old - CAN CONFIRM parents are really busy.

I am thinking that it's easy to lay blame on bloggers, magazines, and the public, while in the meantime, these same people are contacting Wenn or Radar whenever they have something to promote.

Lets go back in the way back machine. Remember when you trashed Adam Sandlers toddler saying she looked like a horse (or some nasty comment), remember how you went on Ellen proclaiming you'd stop the bullying (I don't want to be the problem but part of the solution). How did all that work out for you. You're full of shit

  89. lola says – reply to this

    dear Mario,
good for your honey! i`ve been following you ever since and i must say, you have become less "catty" (although i sometimes miss that about you) but you`ve continued to bring celebrity gossip in a cool calm collected way. for that i applaude you. what ever it was that triggered for you to do a drastic change, i support. may you continue to evolve and may you continue to have success.
having said that, what would really capture your followers would be to stop making the kardashians relevant. those people don`t do anything positive for their community/ country. if anything, they are showing young people how to be money hungry-would-do-antyhing-for-money-and-attetention fame whores. so please turn another leave and stop taking money from them. the media would be a better place without them. thank you kindly for your time.
    best regards,
    fan lola

I stopped reading your blog when you got really mean. I started again after the thing with Khloe and was happy you weren't as bitter and angry about fat people. You have done great with your transformation but you were really hard on the less than perfect, not just fat but even a few pounds overweight. I am so glad you are moving forward and will adhere to a better policy regarding children's photographs.

I firmly believe that I child has a right to their privacy, and reading this made me very happy!

  92. Bridie says – reply to this

Heard about the new policy on ET last week and wondered how you'd handle it. I'll be honest, I Love celeb kid photos. They're beautiful kids and I love seeing these people being so normal and just being mum and dad. However I have a 2 year old son myself and as a single mother I cannot imagine how hard it'd be even just going down to the shop to buy milk with a bunch of people hounding me and constantly screaming at us to get a good look at my boy. Walking down the street with my son in his pram, we talk about the birdies and the colors of things we pass by and the different things we pass like buses driving past or aeroplanes in the sky. I cant imagine not having such lovely little talks with my baby and these poor people dont get to do that because of their constant audience harassing them. That isn't fair. The celebrities chose to be public figures, but their kids did not. I love this new policy you're introducing Perez. Some things should be sacred, like going to & from school or going to funerals. As much as I love seeing Jen Garner bring her kids to school, I don't want to take part in something that if it were happening to me I would hate. Social media & red carpets are a whole other kettle of fish but I don't want to take part in harassment of people just enjoying their family time. I just hope that if so many people stop buying into it then the paparazzi will stop & these kids will be able to go about their lives with their parents without worrying.

  93. Lola says – reply to this

You have all my respect for that!

    Thank you

  96. Nerd From Nerdsville says – reply to this

I can never shed the Net Entrepreneur in me. It always gets the first thought. I read this whole article and the first thought I had was "….5 websites? I've been in net business longer and have fewer". I guess this is a good policy but If I am ever reborn the child of a celebrity… I would want to be photographed all the time from infancy onwards. I'd want oggling my face to be an american tradition. I wouldnt want to START building my fame at 18. I'd want it already in place. But, the children of presidents have always gotten this level of respect from the media. Its nice to see it extend to the children of celebs who are no less deserving of a certain sanctity.
Also, I'm totally against the printing of autopsy photos or open casket photos of famous people in any media.

  97. J says – reply to this
