Veronica Mars Continues Its Killer Opening Weekend! See How Much It Made In Only 291 Theaters!

What do you call a massive hit on a small scale? Well, you can call her anything that you like, but her name is Veronica!

The Veronica Mars movie is experimental in many ways, not the least of which is raising its budget from fans on Kickstarter.

The movie was also only released in 291 theaters in North America for its opening weekend, while being made available for rent at the same time.

And the film's biggest potential fans, its backers, were (mostly) able to download it free!

Despite all this working against them, Kristen Bell and the rest of the Neptune players were still able to pull in an impressive $2 million, with a location average of $6,945!

It doesn't sound like much, but compare that to the weekend's number one movie Mr. Peabody & Sherman which earned about $5,366 per theater.

And don't forget that $2 million was the entire Kickstarter goal for the film's entire budget! Not bad for three days!

Do the math, if Veronica Mars had been shown in as many theaters as Mr. Peabody & Sherman, it would have brought in a very impressive over $27 million, topping every other movie by a LOT. I think they should be proud that their movie did this well.

This film was a flop and the experiment failed… It was a frontloaded film it made most of its money on friday and dropped off about 45-60% between Saturday/Sunday. Now after about 4 weeks the film has made 3.3Million on a budget of 6million (not invested fund but from kickstarter) but Warner Bros still lost out because they paid for all the marketing which is usually a cool $5-10 milion for a sort-of independent project… This film should've opened bigger since it has a fan base and was a tv show. But opening in 291 theaters and making what did was awful… The Grand Budapest Hotel that weekend opened in 66 theaters and made 3.63 Million that weekend which was a theater avg of $55,122 (ground breaking record actually) what was VM excuse she had the best marketing ever kickstarter, trailers galore, fanbase and a tv show.

I don't think it would've made that at all…
