We've heard of folks measuring the length of their penis with a ruler, but a penis rule? That's news to us!!
In an interview at Loyola Marymount University on March 12, Judd Apatow spoke at great length about Lena Dunham and HBO's Girls, a show he helps executive produce.
Amongst other things, the famed film and television maker shared one of his personal rules for being successful on TV:
Never dangle a dick for longer than 20 seconds at a time!
"We've experimented with the limits of what people can handle. We've had a male organ in movies. We found out that 20 seconds of someone naked is probably too much, and people will leave the theater if you have full frontal nudity for an extended period of time. But if you make it five seconds they'll laugh and say it was great. So basically that's the ratio of how much penis people can handle in a movie. Five seconds yes, 20 seconds no. We're always going too far and then deciding where the line is."
While we firmly believe 20 seconds of full frontal is just the tip of the nudity iceberg — "just the tip," LOLz — we can understand how it might make some audiences uncomfortable!
The 46-year-old filmmaker also revealed:
"There have been things on Girls where HBO has said to us, 'If we put this on TV, we literally could lose our license to broadcast'… Let's just say it's something you see in adult film. Elements of sexual intercourse. The high points of sexual intercourse."
The highpoint of sexual intercourse? That's either orgasms are eating a post-coital sandwich, depending on who you talk to!
