This is so sad!
Two courageous firefighters were killed today while trying to put out a 9-alarm Brownstone fire in Boston that wound up sending at least 18 people to the hospital.
The deadly blaze, which broke out in the city's densely populated Back Bay neighborhood, started in the basement of a four-story brick row house and spread quickly thanks to unusually strong 40 miles per hour winds.
The details surrounding these two heroic first responders' deaths are still murky, but officials admit multiple firefighters were at one point trapped in the building.
Sam Wallace, an onlooker and the president of the Back Bay Neighborhood Association, says he saw an explosion shortly after the house caught on fire.
He described the horrible ordeal:
“People were running out of the building screaming… People were crying and weeping. This has really been a sad day."
Ugh! That's just awful! And only a few weeks after a terrifying fire in NYC, too!
Today marks the first time a member of the Boston Fire Department was killed in the line of duty since Fire Lieutenant Kevin M. Kelley was killed in a firetruck accident back in 2009.
Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to all of the family, friends, and loved ones of everyone affected by today's unfathomable events.
