SNL & Lorne Michaels Face Pressure To Hire Latina Writers & Actresses!

| Filed under: TV NewsSaturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live may have taken steps this past year towards expanding its diversity, but some believe the late night variety show hasn't gone far enough.

Latina women have started calling for SNL to add some Latina writers and actors, and we think that's a great idea!

The backlash came after a sketch that involved Cecily Strong (who is not Latina) playing a woman named Marisol who was essentially a mail…well, email-ordered girlfriend.

Since then, many have used the hashtag #StillNoLatinas to voice their concerns!

We hope SNL handles this criticism the same way they listened the campaign to finally add a black female actress to the show, and that they add a new Latina writer or actress, or ideally both!

Only people who are qualified should be given a specific job. it shouldn't matter what your race is! I'm tired of these race rules! If no white people are qualified don't hire them. If no hispanics are qualified then don't hire any.

When are the going to feel the pressure to hire GOOD writers?

I'm Latina and I don't agree with this. I'm all for diversity and being represented but there aren't any indians in the show either. There are no asians, there are no eskimos, there are no russians, I mean, the list goes on and on. I hope they cast a Latina, but I hope is not because they're feeling pressured but because the person they select deserves it above all the rest. (It was nice to see them add an African American woman though).

Re: shhhhh – I agree. This all inclusive crap just goes too far. You can't please everyone. Imagine being picked for your skin color and NOT for your talent.
I honest to god think Perez is a true buffoon when it comes to social ideas.

I'm a Latina and honestly I don't agree with this. SNL shouldn't be the United Nations, it should be a talented group of comedians that can take up many different roles. I don't see a need to be hiring a person to represent every ethnic minority. I'm all for getting Latinos and Latinas on the show, as long as they're funny! I really hate how the race card is played so often nowadays. It's honestly getting ridiculous.

Maybe there aren't any funny ones that have applied for jobs or when they applied they bombed the interview process?? I mean, I don't cry foul because there are no Asian actors on the show. Give me a break.

  8. 8

Well, when are the Asians going to jump on board?! lol. How about QUALIFIED actors and writers?! Why is the focus on racial quotas vs qualified people?

And still no mention on how SNL actually had a character named dyke.

Jesus people. Funny should be judged on funny, not the color of your skin. Who cares if there aren't any? Maybe no Latina people were funny enough to get a spot. Someone will always lose and turn in into a racial issue.
