Alternate ending my ass. Someone just cut out the part with the kids.

They had the ending they needed already there. And they chose to drown it with all the other crap they pulled.

I don't understand all the haters. Sure the ending was a surprise, but isn't that what was great abut the show? The ending brought back fond memories, made me laugh and cry. I can't believe they fit so much into just an hour. This was a great show. I wish the final was longer, so it could have included more flashbacks, but it certainly did not disappoint, only left me wanting more. Isn't that what it was supposed to do? I say "BRAVO"!!!!

The ending was great…until the last 5 minutes. Ted and Robin together for the billionth time is just ridiculous and pandering. Plus, if Barney couldn't handle Robin's crazy schedule, how could Ted and two teenagers? Dumb. dumbdumbdumb.

Personally I loved this. I loved the mother and honestly if it had not been for her, I don't think Ted would have even been able to be with Robin. LIfe is funny, strange and down right weird; I think this was the perfect ending. As the Stones said, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need. In both cases, Ted got what he needed, the mother and later, when they were ready, Robin.

I don' get what all the hate is about. It is a TV show. I choose nine years ago to watch and though I was disappointed that the wedding lasted forever this season and sometimes I thought the writers had skipped out, the last two shows I did not feel that way. You knew from day one, when he met the mother, it was over one way or the other. As the fairytales say…"and they lived".

The ending was very predictable. I told my son in each scene what was going to happen including the death and Robin. I was so spot on that he asked if I had already seen the finale. Early in the season I did not want the show to end. To be honest, now I am glad it did.

The ending was very predictable, but I guess over all the series finale was okay.

If the "How I Met Your Dad" pilot gets picked up I will not invest any time to watch it. Why watch a TV show where the producers/creators alienated such a large segment of the fan base as they did with the HIMYM finale? They're likely to do the same thing again. Fooled me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I don't get all the damn complainers. Sure it sucked that the mom died but this was a vision they've had for a while obviously and it wasn't that bad of an ending. I enjoyed. I liked him with the mom personally (I thought she fit really well) but I know ppl that felt like it should've always been Robin so it just is what it is. Can't change it now, so move on complainers.

All that "alternate" ending seems to do is prove the writers are smarter then the fans. I'll never understand why people think they know better then the creators of the show. People really think their opinions matter that much huh?

Not pleased at all. F****r spends 9 GD years finding a wife and she dies in the same episode they get married in. SOB’s should be shot. Then he marries the one everybody wanted him to end up with from the first few years. What a f*****g waste.

The show itself was great but the series finale was a great disappointment! I thought the dynamic between the mother and Ted was great and they totally ruined it! The fact that Ted went after Robin in the end taints the relationship he had with his wife. It was like she was the way for him to become a father but in the end, Robin was the woman he wanted. I did not like the series finale at ALL and it will taint the show forever.

Americans can't handle tragedies.. Don't we know this by now?

It has to be all roses and puppies and kittens or they will call for the WAAAHHmbulance..

    Grow up children..

  16. 16

Yup, they should have ended it there because the real ending sucked!!! What a letdown.

I felt jerked around. I was invested in Barney/Robin after the last few seasons of the writers showing us why they should be together, so a 2 episode finale was not enough for me to let go of that. Adored Ted with the Mother and did not want her to die an early death. I didn't watch this show for reality - I just look at the news for that.

It was a surprising ending, but it kind of made sense; after all, he was always gravitating towards her, he lived the life he wanted and so did she, at the end they were both ready to commit to each other without compromising what the other needed to be happy, it closed the circle nicely; I would have added Marshall and Lily in the back with her giving back the money from the bet (which he paid her at Robin&Barney's wedding).

Because writters ignored their characters' development (Barney's evolution of personality during the 3 bloody last years, showing a TV shown is about making it plausible for people who dare watching it, and for our real eyes of real people what happen is that in few minutes there is characters' personality regression happening in 10 minutes. There are 3 days before a wedding storied during all the episodes of the last season, meaning several months for us watching, and all the "next" years of the story rushed in few minutes, all the fans complain is about rushing, dashing off, botching a story while making things very slow before just to keep people watching, meaning, to producers and other "people of the TV" keeping making money and doing a rushed null end, this all is about mocking at people watching the TV (or the internet, watever).

Re: stepy67 – robin's schedule wasn't crazy anymore in 2030 (she had *new* dogs - you don't get dogs if you can't take care of them because you're traveling)

I was pretty sure the mother was going to die, so I had already made my peace with it. What really crushed me was Robin and Barney not ending up together. Those two were just perfect for each other, Robin and Ted never made sense to me.

I like that ending much better. Even if it is just the same thing with all the stuff I did not like cut out. I would have been happier with that ending. But I do admire the creators for doing what they did. It takes guts to show that real life sometimes does not give you what you wanted. I just liked the character of the mother so much that I hated the way it went down. I mean to me it seemed like he was not even that heart broken once she died.

Re: Cherry – It is not that the fans "know better", its that they know what they like. The fans that hated the ending invested time in a show and characters that become a part of their lives. They have a right to be upset about what happened. And I am sure the creators love the fact that they made such passionate fans. I hated the ending as fan, but I dont think I know better then the creators, I just know how I would have preferred it ending. But I was able to appreciate the guts and creativity that went into. Sure hope you can read this from your high horse :)

Re: max – EXACTLY. The problem wasn't the mother dying or him getting back with Robin, it just felt so rushed. After all these years watching and loving the show I just felt cheated on the series finale. Uugh, and wtf was up with Robins hair.

No offense, I like how i met your mother, but Friends is much much much much much better as a tv sitcom. the so called twist and turns is much more real in Friends than in HIMYM.. so sad that they had to end the series like that, not much attention brought up to Barney and Robin and The Mother..

This ending would have rocked. They actual ending was fucked. When you have kids presenting the idea to them that you always loved someone else and their mother was a stopping ground is disgusting. The ending and it's analogy tarnished the show forever. All 208 episodes took a down grade.

    28

This ending is stupid. The problem with "good endings" is they always end as early as possible. They get together, they live happily ever after. But then again, they never live happily ever after.. you never see that and for all we could know, everyone dies a week later. HIMYM actually portrayed a much fuller and more satisfying story, showing what would go on to happen way after the main events took place (up to the time the story was being told - poetically), but realistically that included tragedy. However the finale did speed through the events - this was also good. No point dwelling on the tragedies when life's story is still going on is a deep motto throughout the show.

If any part of the finale needed editing, it's definitely Barney's. Surely no one ever wanted to see him settle down and stop being awesome, but Robin seemed like the one person he could've been awesome with. However, after their almost-inevitable (though the show planted doubts by continuing one season longer than planned and focusing too heavily on their wedding) breakup, he just regresses back to his old ways, which was fine until a mere baby seems to change it all. I will point out that he has held babies before and they've never changed his ways, but this show fell for a soppy and unrealistic depiction of a humans power to love based solely on DNA matches. If anything, HIMYM needed to be more realistic, not less.

we have tragedies every day in our life, from the reality that we live to the news tv that is full of sad cases, an manipulation so why is wrong to ask or to hope for better ending ! as a hope and not shake us with a tragic finale?:) It was great the grande finale:), the episode that tell the entire story and in the final remember you what is the reality !!!! BRAVO!
