Aretha Franklin Doesn't Take Too Kindly To These Satirical Accusations! Suing News Site For $10 Million Over Slanderous Claims!

A few weeks ago, a satirical site called The News Nerds published an outrageous article about Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin getting into a little tiff.

The satirical site "reported":

"While Aretha Franklin was making her way to the stage, Labelle extended her hand to greet the “Respect” singer, when she threw epic shade in an effort to avoid her."

Needless to say, the Respect singer did not take too kindly to their fake claims.

A few days after the fake story went viral, Aretha posted a response, dismissing the scuffle between the two songstresses, but apparently that wasn't enough!

In fact, Aretha just filed a $10 million lawsuit against The Onion wannabe site!

Through her publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, the queen of soul said:

"The stories were not presented as satire or humor. It was presented as a serious news story intended to depict me in a slanderous and derogatory way — defamation of character."

Jeez.

The News Nerds better prepare because this diva is NOT messing around.

This should be interesting. The show "The Good Wife" show a court taking on copyright infringement. If showed how a satire can be libellous by using the source. I know there are a few sites copying The Onion. Others have complained they present the satire as actual news, not satire. I wonder if this is the same sight that satied Biebs and the Mahone kid as being bisexual. I guess if another site uses a satire as an actual news source without specifying it's satire they can be sued for libel or slander. We'll see what the judge says.

The original article Perez supplied a link to is obviously satire IF you read the whole article, plus they tell you in lighter type that it's for entertainment purposes only. BUT I have read other sites only reporting the first paragraph and leaving out the obvious satire, and presenting it as actual news and not satire. So the source site to me is in the clear, but other sites only using the first paragraph and presenting it as fact are in trouble and opened themselves to litigation. You better watch what you sample. And how many sites did use the bieber/Mahone picture and present it as fact? Those sites were misrepresenting the picture…opening themselves to liable/slander.
