This is just an awful, horrible story.
Max Clifford is a renowned celebrity publicist, you might have heard of him.
Maybe it's because he represents (or at least represented until very recently) music and TV icon Simon Cowell. Or maybe it's because the 71-year-old Brit was recently convicted of eight counts of indecent assault against a multitude of young women.
Ugh. Absolutely disgusting. It doesn't matter how good he is at PR because this is one of those super icky stories that just cannot be spun.
A British judge has just sentenced him to spend at least eight years in prison for his horrible, reprehensible actions. Though the crimes were all committed over 30 years ago, the judge didn't let that stop him from throwing the book at Max.
"You have been convicted of eight offences of indecent assault. These offences may have taken place a long time ago when inappropriate and trivial sexual misbehaviour was more likely to be tolerated or overlooked, but your offending is not trivial but of a very serious nature and any perception to the contrary on your part is misconceived."
Awful. Just awful. You can read the rest of the judge's statement HERE.
Though Max's PR website has been taken offline since his sentencing, it definitely highlighted his relationship with American Idol superstar and recent dad Simon Cowell.
The site read:
"Clifford's unique combination of protection and publicity helped cement [Simon Cowell's] place as one of the world's most successful music/TV moguls in the world."
Other notable clients for Mr. Clifford?
Yikes. They say you can learn a lot about a man by the company he keeps. We wonder if Simon is wishing he had chosen another publicist.
Our thoughts and well wishes go out to all the victims of this man's horrible crimes.
