Jennifer Lopez SLAMMED By THIS Latino For Not Being Latina Enough! Are His Comments WAY Off Base Or Does He Have A Point?!?

jennifer lopez not latina enough edward james olmos slams star point or no

Uh oh! Looks like Jennifer Lopez will NOT be happy about these claims!

Poor thing was having such a good day too, revealing her album cover and everything!

Edward James Olmos, the famed Mexican-American actor, has SLAMMED J.Lo because he thinks that she isn't Latina enough!

Say WHAAAAAT!?!?

The American Idol judge and Edward shared the screen in Selena, which was Jen's breakout role and, according to Edward, the one that launched her:

"to a stardom that she would not have been able to reach without that film."

But that's not ALL he said! He continued to slam her, saying:

“I told her, ‘You have to understand that the future is in your hands, and I hope you use it not only to advance who you are but also to promote what we represent, as Latino women and men. Being Latino – I love it. I love being Latino. It’s a love that I have that comes from a deep sense of pride. She has done a lot of things, but she has not dedicated herself to her culture, and that is the most important thing to me."

Yikes! Those are NOT kind words!

What do YOU think? Does he have a point or are his comments WAAAAY off base!

I grew up watching Telemundo and Univision. I remember the interview on the Cristina show, where Marc Anthony also made an appearance. She didn't speak a lick of Spanish and that irks the hell out of me. My husband is also Puerto Rican and can't speak Spanish. How is that possible?! I don't have anything against the woman, but she's no Eva Longoria proud of her heritage. JLO is a business woman and an entertainer. I won't say artist because have you heard her sing live…come on.

<b>my buddy's mother-in-law makes $86 an hour on the computer . She has been out of work for five months but last month her payment was $16030 just working on the computer for a few hours. go to this site……………….WWW.WORKS23.US

Interesting, Jlo is a positive woman I wouldn't say that she has negatively contributed towards the Latino culture per say but she is a huge influence, he might be on to something, with all the influence and power she has she could be doin more to bring attention to important issues in the US when it comes I disparities in education & health: so hm something to ponder on.

She's doing just fine. Why does somebody have to act a certain way, or promote certain things to be proud of their heritage? She's done plenty of latin things, but it's absolutely preposterous to expect somebody's lineage to define them entirely. People should be who they are, nothing more, nothing else. Leave her alone.

    5

He's right!! JLO would be nothing but a backup dancer if anything if it weren't for the SELENA movie. She was a struggling actress/dancer before that film and she has done nothing for her Latino roots but I mean she has done good for herself so roots don't matter. I see whites trying to be black. and blacks trying to be black and Latinos trying to be white or black so honestly it is nothing new. It's part of society.

I agree. I love her and her work but she has not done much for her culture. I am a Latina/Mexican. Selena was what really made her and opened the doors to her and blossomed her career. But nowadays you hear her songs and they are like Beyoncè said quick songs that are not well made which are put out bu artist that want to have famous singles. She needs to take notes from her ex husband because he has really done a great job for his culture and Latinos is general. (Marc Anthony)

A white person going to say the same thing, that it has to push forward the concept of pride in being white… and there you would have everyone becoming cray cray and who are going to tell her that it is a dirty white racist!

    8

She's weird…she speaks butchered Spanish. Doesn't anyone remember her car commercial where she is "driving through the Bronx" to "get back to her roots"? Meanwhile she was shooting in California!…which is fine and normal to a certain extent I suppose but don't act like you love being Puerto Rican and Latina when you can't even formulate a sentence aside from "me llamo Jennifer". It's convenient to be Latino when it comes to business.

  9. 9

That's stupid whenever anyone tells someone else they're not latina enough, black enough, white enough and so on and so forth, just so fucking stupid.

What is he talking about…she's married 3 times, sh*ts out 2kids…then forgets she has them, dresses in expensive forever 21 looking clothes, has a me me me attitude, everything she does is "sexy"….puts out bad stereotyped music. I think she's representing her culture perfectly

I'm not a huge JLo fan, BUT I am Latina and it PISSES ME OFF when someone tries to tell me im not latina, FUCK YOU EDWARD!!! #TeamJLo

My grandparents were born in Russia & all I can do is toast a drink & say goodbye in Russian. She was born & raised in America where, like it or not, the majority of us speak English. Get off her back.

Re: LetsBeHonest – You are bigotty, bigotty, biggoty. She has done alot to promote her AMERICAN roots by being obscenely ostentatious and throwing her wealth & freedom in people's faces. Go JLo!

OMG…well maybe he dan do another movie and get all the consultants killed. He is so ridic…just like the riots…picked up the broom when the cameras were rolling. Soon as no cameras, your ass put the broom down. Why don't u try supporting instead of trying to tear her down.

  16. @v@ says – reply to this

    16

Re: Ronie – She wasn't born in a latin country. She's an American born in New York. How or why would she speak Spanish? If Latinos feel a need to be proud of her fame because of her last name, fine, but take her as she is.

  17. 17

Oh come on! This guy needs to get a life. Think about all the races in America! We are diverse and don't need anyone backing us in a corner! Give her a break. I'm not even a fan, but this is plain stupid!

    18

This man is a racist. He should get the sterling treatment. At the very least snoop should publish his address so Jennifer can send people over to "talk" to him and his family. Where is Loopy Snoopy when you need him.

  19. Gboogie says – reply to this

    19

What an assclown. Clearly some people on here have not seen/heard her interviews with the Latin channels/newspapers. She speaks very well for someone who's first language is English being born here. Secondly, she does a lot for the Latin community. Third and last how ignorant to say that she popped out 2 kids so she is being Latin. I guess had she popped out 3 she would be considered trailer trash.

  20. Jo says – reply to this

    20

she's american, she judges a singning competition and doesn't know how to sing, she's clearly not relevant and tries way too hard to be sexy. So Mr. Olmos should smile and focus on real latinas!

I thought, "You have to understand that the future is in your hands, and I hope you use it not only to advance who you are but also to promote what we represent, as white women and men. Being white – I love it. I love being white. It’s a love that I have that comes from a deep sense of pride. Justin Beiber has done a lot of things, but she has not dedicated herself to her culture, and that is the most important thing to me."

funny how that sounds racist now with just a few substitute words. Everybody is allowed to be proud of who they are but….. my race of people.

  22. 22

Like he acted latino on Battlestar Galactica. He played as white as possible.

  23. @v@ says – reply to this

    23

She did play Selena which in and of itself served as an homage. She's done albums in spanish. How many spanish films has he done? His IMDB doesn't have any listed if he has. She lives in America, and has definitely dedicated her life to contributing to American culture, and it pays her bills. Nationality is NOT the same as ancestral ethnicity, which can serve to enhance or divide, like his opinion.

JLO SINGLE-HANDEDLY MADE LATIN CULTURE MAINSTREAM! Take a sit man!
    - She made curves and a healthy body image a standard
    - made latin music relevant and mainstream
    - broke barriers for many latinas in the film industry
    - has recorded songs/full album in spanish
    - produced shows in spanish
    - filmed QViva just to promote her latin heritage and culture
    - always includes a Selena tribute in her concerts
    - SLAYED in an all spanish Celia Cruz tribute in the AMAs
    etc etc etc . . .
. . . get your facts straight or STAY IN YOUR LANE!!!!

  26. Dave says – reply to this

    26

This guy needs to get a clue and understand, just because someone is of Latin decent, doesn't mean you're gonna know everything about that culture. I was born in Northern, NM where many people are of Spanish decent dating back generations and I don't know a bit of Spanish nor anything about that culture. I consider myself American and have adapted American culture as my own. I'd love to know what my culture is but I don't and certainly don't want to get grief over it. Same goes for anyone else in this melting pot of a country. Irish, Dutch, English, etc. The fact that Jennifer has made other movies that have a Latin concept/awareness, such as "Bordertown" and "El Cantante" plus having several Spanish albums and signing on as chief exec. of a Spanish network tells me that she's doing her part for the Latin community.

Re: things ppl do fo money

Stay in your lane you ignorant hater! JLo has worked harder than anyone for what she has achieved and this guy has nothing to do with her rise to stardom! Even as a dancer she already had an amazing career!
Opening big award shows, worked with Janet Jackson (the best female dancer in the game), toured around the world with dance productions and starred in the most popular show in tv (as a Fly girl)!
And yes she was never one to be ungrateful! Jen always thanked the ones who helped her - just watch her speech while receiving her Walk of Fame Star!

All in all, educate yourself and then try to come at JLo. Until then take a seat, calm yo tits and zip it. Please and thank you. #church_dismissed

So it's his goal in life. She's just being herself. She doesn't have to do anything for him.
She's a good person living the life she wants. What makes her more of a role model to Latinas then to Americans? Isn't it all the same thing? Look up to someone as a person not as a race or ethnicity. The world would be simpler

    35

Re: Anna – So in order to be proud of being Puerto Rican or Latino, you must speak the language. I know plenty of people including my family that do not speak spanish. Grandparents speak it and that's it. That does not make any of us less proud of all we are. That's what happens when you are born and raised in the U.S.A. Quit judging and stay in your lane.

  36. 36

Re: karen – Puerto Rico is a US territory - so your distinction is pointless.

  37. @v@ says – reply to this

    37

Maybe she doesn't know how to dedicate herself to her culture. He could ask her to help out on some of his initiatives. She might be willing. Entertainers can step in it politically if they don't know what they're doing, and their career can nose dive. He could advise her.

  38. Anthony says – reply to this

    38

I agree. He did not say JLO wasn't latina enough. he said she has contributed to her latina culture. JLO is an overrated talentless singer, ok dancer and mediocre actress who is the single biggest (right behind Beyoncé) media hype who never contributes to her culture positively. all she is in it is for the fame, money and hype…. there are so many stories about how self centered, cruel and evil she is and would sell her soul for fame!!!!

  39. Dave says – reply to this

    39

Re: Face it – I think you're missing the point. If you look at all of the work she does, it includes several contributions for the Latin community. So for this dude to say she's not Latina enough is absurd. How Latin does he want her to be? why put her in a category which limits her? I wouldn't want that.

J.lo is a hybrid latin girl … influences by family with different cultures since she born in NYC … Hello … that concept that Latin we all have to have black hair and brown skin is completly wrong … Latins we can go from very Whitle anglo looking ( count my self in that one ) to very dark skin close to Black … Hollywood examples Cameron Diaz to Sammy Sosa. Our roots have much variety that why the name Latin ! What's wrong with Grand Pa here !
