HGTV Cancels Anti-Gay Show & The World Rejoices!! Find Out Why Flip It Forward Will Never See The Light Of Day HERE!

| Filed under: TV NewsGay Gay GayLGBT

hgtv cancels flip it forward benham twins anti gay fundamentalist father flip benham

Meanwhile, at HGTV

It probably wouldn't shock you to learn that a network catering to lovers of homes and gardens has tons of viewers who also support LGBT equality.

What might shock you, however, is how close the network came to airing a new TV show that stars the twin sons of an infamous bigot!

Flip It Forward, starring David and Jason Benham, was scheduled to premiere in October, but now that's not happening. HGTV has decided "not to move forward" with the show.

The network has kept their reasons close to the chest, but many think they're canceling the show because of the controversy that arose when viewers found out that the twins' father, Flip Benham, was an evangelical minister and staunch advocate against same-sex marriage and LGBT rights.

Boom! Equal rights 1, intolerance 0.

While the U.S. Constitution obvs protects Flip's legal right to spout out his wacky fundamentalist views at the top of his lungs, it doesn't ensure that he'll have a job waiting for him afterward!

Nor should it! Bigotry has no place in our homes and gardens!! Kudos to HGTV for doing what's right!

Hardly an anti-gay show..? Wth Perez. You're the intolerant one. Misleading story, these boys could be decent people.

  2. lauren says – reply to this

So…your assuming just because these men had a father who felt that way they feel the same? Wow so much for not judging someone because of their parents actions.

  3. jj says – reply to this

So because of who their father is, their show should be cancelled????? I'm getting real tired of the Anti-gay nonsense, this is actually ridiculous. Religion is religion, religious people aren't going to change their views just because the world is. I have no problem with people's sexual orientation but this is not whats right, silencing people does nobody any favours. Plus it may have even been a good show. My father is a crook and if people had the audacity to revenge that by going after me I WOULD GO NUTS.

  4. K. says – reply to this

I agree with the previous comments. If we are to show an example of FREEDOM of speech, it must go both ways. To judge children based on their parents actions, doesn't really add up. Let's all show a little more LOVE to one another, no matter the stance or belief. The mark of a true peace-lover is to stand up for what we believe, without having to put someone else down to get there. Let's all love one another :)

  5. Kim says – reply to this

Be careful Perez… all of this bullying is going to turn people against gays and not for them. Their statement was taken out of context and HGTV was bullied into cancelling the show.

  6. Lynn says – reply to this

Don't understand why the sins of the father are visited on the sons so to speak. How is this equalty because their father has a specific view, it's assumed they hold the same one?

  7. adblockplus says – reply to this

Since Perez won't tell you….The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is; have we shined Christ's light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying.

Over the last decade, we've sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views.

We were saddened to hear HGTV's decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard on television today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it.

    - David & Jason Benham

  8. 8

So why should the show be canceled bc their Dad is against homosexuality.

  9. Kirsten says – reply to this

So you have just judged 2 men because of their father and rejoiced in their careers taking a set back? Isn't this intolerance at it's worst!

My father has views I do not agree with, but I should not be judged because of that! We are different people.

Shame on you Perez for promoting everything you say you hate.

  10. Brianna says – reply to this

You have no idea what these to men think on the matter of gay marriage. Nor does not supporting it make them hateful bigots. if that is even the case. I love how you are so negative and nasty to anymore who disagrees with you, you hateful hateful man. Remember, the sins of the father should not be the sins of the son, and in your case i hope that is true.

  11. keyth says – reply to this

This is why Perez will NEVER be a voice in the gay community. His celebatory nature and rhetoric is a major turn -off to the REAL workers of change.
Go back and sit down Perez.

  12. G Walters says – reply to this

This is still America and what has happened to our free speech? In other words, if we do not agree with the minority, we are punished for our own beliefs. I have worked with gays and they have been some of my closest friends. Did I agree with how they chose to live their lives? Well, that is between God and them. However, one cannot rewrite the Bible to make oneself feel better about how they are living their lives. I am so tired of turning on my TV set to see a Gay in every single show. I'm tired of this being shoved at me and taught to our children in the school systems. It's not enough for this "hate movement" to get their way, but they want to force us by using bully tactics to try to change how we view the Bible. I try to love and respect everyone regardless of how they believe. It is very sad that we have come to an age that if we believe in our Christian Biblical faith we are punished for it. … that we are not allowed to have a voice too.

  13. Susan says – reply to this

Its not your place to say what has a place in my home or garden.

  14. Kells says – reply to this

perez Hilton is such an demonic idiot.

  15. Lacroix says – reply to this

So now the sons will be demonized because of the acts of their father….this sounds so unamerican, Perez there's more to life than your gay gossip bubble…do you remember what's it's like to make a real living?

  16. MIKE says – reply to this

Its funny how you and the media can express their view about being Gay is ok, but when someone tries to express that they dont think being gay is right, they are the worst people in the world. It is people like you, Perez, that is causing free speech is all but gone in America. You should be ashamed of your self for this, and should think about other peoples views, and stop trying to push your views on everyone else. You are a Bully of free speech, and you should be silenced.

  17. taryn says – reply to this

I'm bi and dc what their father believes. Why should they be punished for his beliefs? Does anybody know what they believe? It was their show, not their fathers.

  18. Peachy says – reply to this

So two sons are denied a job because of the views of their father? And even if they shared his views, no one is allowed to have an opinion AND a job in this country, unless the opinion is politically correct? *Scratches head* And I thought this was supposed to be the Land of the Free.

  19. taryn says – reply to this

Also being bi and part of the gay community…people are to easily offended! Not just gays, everybody these days is easily offended. Its pathetic.

  20. Ding Dong Donny says – reply to this

    Oh pleeeeze Mary
Who will you be jerking off to ,if they take all the hot straight guys away ?
Andy (Popeye) Cohen, or Ross Martin

  21. 21

Wait…these guys look beyond gay. Whats the fuss? I thought they were gay. They have to be gay

  22. Brown says – reply to this

Boom. Intolerance in the toilet. Thanks, Perez, for showing your true colors. I'll never go to your site again. I deplore the anti gay discriminatory views, but even more horrifying is your intolerance (or recognition of rights). Shame on you.

  23. MSG says – reply to this

We do not live in a free society anymore if we are not allowed to have our own beliefs. This intolerance is backfiring. I quit watching that channel long ago after I found out House Hunters is staged but I think I'll just block it completely off my TV now.

  24. J says – reply to this

I don't think HGTV did what was "right"… Unless the sons have a history of spouting off wacky fundamentalist views and of practicing bigotry then essentially they are being punished because of their father. You preach about equal rights, but clearly you don't know how to practice them.

  25. JB says – reply to this

If you plan to cancel this show because of the brothers religion preference then I will refuse to suppor HGTV and will have others boycott the show. The gays and racist groups are shoving comments down our throats and it is time this should stop. Everyone should have equal rights to their speech. If the gays or racists take offense of someone belief different than theirs, they do not have to watch the program. I am getting tired of this and others need to step up

  26. Lindsay says – reply to this

Yes people, Flip Fontana can have whatever opinion he wants and has the freedom to express it. However, HGTV also has the right to not to put them on the network. It is not a violation of rights at all. Instead, both parties are expressing their rights.

  27. melissa says – reply to this

I need an explanation as to how this show is "anti-gay"? Just because the show's hosts are Christian and have strong religious beliefs it does not make them anti-gay. I need to understand what has happened to this country that people are only allowed to believe and agree with what the masses are telling them to. Being against gay marriage does not make anyone anti-gay, and what does it matter to you any way? Why do you need to be accepted by every single person in the entire country? I am so incredibly tired of you liberals telling everyone what is and isn't ok to believe and preaching your tolerance while being completely intolerant of any beliefs other than your own.

  28. brittany says – reply to this

I am an avid reader of Perez but I don't have the same views and beliefs. And that is ok. But because you live a certain lifestyle doesn't mean I should call for your website to be pulled or your views not being able to be published. Just because they don't have the same views doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to prosper and have recognition. if you want to equality then they should be entitled to that equality as well.

  29. bTeri says – reply to this

Once again Perez Hilton LEAPS into anti-gay attack mode before getting the facts. I just saw first hand an interview with these brothers.. They have NO ISSUES with gay people. The comments they were attacked over were about the bullying 'gay mafia" that has ZERO tolerance to people of faith and will do everything to destroy their livlihoods - Forgive me but in the recent past wasnt this one of the complaints BY the gay community of how they were treated?

I am not gay, I am not a religious Christian.. from the outside this stinks and Perez is AGAIN using his powerful online platform to misinform and hurt good people. Shame on you.

  30. 30

Actually the brothers spoke out and said they follow the bible and what it teaches and they are anti-gay and anti-abortion. I don't care - they are entitled to their beliefs. I don't really see why the show had to be cancelled since their religios/political beiliefs have nothing to do with it. They did not say they hate gays or anything, they just do not agree with that lifestyle.

  31. 31

Re: Kim – Exactly. I used to be a gay rights supporter but not really anymore. I'm not against them, I just don't care anymore. I am sick and tired of people like Perez crying discrimination and bigotry every time you turn around. I am tired of hearing "But I'm GAY….." Now I am at the "Ok, so what, whatever" point.

  32. Pork Belly Futures says – reply to this

Let's all give a SNOUT-OUT for PEREZ! When is your 'highly anticipated' "Gay Parents of New York" reality series premiering? We would like an update! What's the hold up? It's been over a year and you can't get a date!

  33. Paige says – reply to this

You saying that a priest has no right to have the views that they have is same as the priest being against gays. You are NO BETTER, trying to FORCE your lifestyle on everyone, as soon as someone has a problem you cry bigot!! I for one am for equality but I am also for your right to be a individual. You can't force an opinion on someone especially if it goes against a persons religion, you wouldn't be forcing a person with a Hindu background to eat a steak would you? Please respect religion and those who practice it. To quote your story "spout out his wacky fundamentalist views" those wacky views are his life. His profession. PLEASE if you want respect from people try having some for others. This isn't a hateful message so please don't take it in that tone.

  34. PerezHiltonTheRacist says – reply to this

This is becoming a joke, every day some perennial victim trying to find something to whine about. How are we supposed to take these people serious when all they do is look for sympathy by trying to appear as a victim? dial 1-800-WAA-AAAA and STFU!!!!!!!

  35. Tara says – reply to this

Gotta agree with the previous comments. This show shouldn't be cancelled because of their father's beliefs. And even if they share the same beliefs, so what? I think everyone has the right to their own opinions as long as it's not being forced upon others. More love, less intolerance.

  36. Comeonnow says – reply to this

Equal rights for all means that people get to keep their opinions. I don't agree with their stance on gay marriage but they still have a right to believe what they want to believe. If you're a true believer in equal rights then you would understand that evangelical preachers should be able to express those views without being hated as well. If you don't believe what he believes, there is no reason for you to try and convert his way of thinking to yours, just understand that he holds different beliefs than you. Why do you have to make sure everyone has the same opinion as you?

  37. Stephanie says – reply to this

Perez, I hope you are reading all of these. I am a supporter of the Gay community but feel that your shaming of these brothers is totally out of line. It looks like, from the comments being left here, that you are pushing your own agenda so hard that you've forgotten the big picture. You slam anyone that doesn't have the same opinion as you and it is ridiculously narrow minded and short sighted. You are alienating your fan base and should really consider re-evaluating your tactics. From the story you posted about these brothers you gave no indication that they have ever been accused of any discrimination. It's sad that you sink to the level of those who use anti-gay propaganda to light fires. Shame on you. The bottom line is that people are always going to hate. ALWAYS. What we need to do as parents and responsible citizens of the would is to uplift our young so high that no amount of hate or bullying will ever bring them down. It seems to me that they have in fact been discriminated against for their religious opinion. Something that they are entitled to have in this country. I could understand if they had actually committed some kind of offense, but your happy about them losing an opportunity when they have committed no wrongs. I don't see the victory in that. I really hope that you take some time to soul search and come to a place of more tolerance so that you can practice what you preach.

  38. Stophle says – reply to this

"While the U.S. Constitution obvs protects Flip's legal right to spout out his wacky fundamentalist views at the top of his lungs, it doesn't ensure that he'll have a job waiting for him afterward!"

Perez, you need to make sure you are keeping your facts straight when you post. It wasn't Flip, the father who lost a job, it was his sons and for nothing they did.

There is a BIG difference between someone believing being gay is wrong and someone being filled with hate. You can disagree with someone about something and still want the best for them and preach love. In their statement below, the brothers have said they have no problems with gay people, but even if that weren't true, what difference does it make? I doubt their views were going to play any part at all on their HGTV show.

The intolerance in this nation has gotten out of control. If gay people want to stop it, they need to be more tolerant themselves. Allow people to have their beliefs. You be yourself, live a good life, be happy and kind to others and show them through your actions, not your words, that being gay is nothing but normal. Railing against people who disagree with you but haven't done anything hateful or caused harm to others is pointless. It does nothing but make you look irrational, which does not help your cause.

  39. Suzanne says – reply to this

I am a strong proponent for human rights. I believe in equality and a level playing field for all people. It is for this reason that I do not support the idea that someone should be denied professionally because of what they (allegedly) believe. Isn't that what we are fighting for?? Furthermore, isn't that what this country was founded on. Just because I don't agree with their personal beliefs, it doesn't mean that they don't have something positive to bring to the table. Denying someone opportunity for an assumed personal belief is a slippery slope that I hope we don't fall into as a nation. You never know when the tables could turn and your beliefs be put on trial. In that case you would want the right precedent in place. Perez, your success is based on freedom of of speech. You of all people should be repectful of ones right to express an opinion (popular or not) without fear of consequence.

  40. Get a Life! says – reply to this

Freedom of speech allows you to say what you think, what you wish, anytime you want. It does not excuse you from the consequences of saying what you did. Why is it that only these right-wing nutjobs get to say what they want and not have any fallout? Oh, they're Christian!!! I see, only Christians get to say what they want and not have anyone react because, well, they're commanded by God.

  41. 41

So… was their show going to be proselytizing according to their father's beliefs? Because if it wasn't (and it had to do something with home and garden) then canceling it because of their dad's beliefs is like firing an employee because of who they're related to — not exactly fair.

  42. Tiggy says – reply to this

Hey, morons, freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences.

Perez is right about the father being an evangelical nutbag, but that wasn't why these guys were fired. They were fired because they are Christian ACTIVISTS with an agenda. Whatever they do in private is their business, but if the face of HGTV's new show is seen out in front of a woman's clinic protesting AND/OR HELPING DRAFT LEGISTLATION IN SC that restricts civil unions, lobbying for their Creationist views (look it up), then the HGTV BRAND IS DAMAGED.

What if the twins decide they don't want to flip a house for a legally married gay couple? Or a straight couple of 20 years "living in sin" because they don't believe in marriage? If HGTV told them they had to do it, THEY COULD HAVE SUIED for discrimination! Too many problems to hire twins as a gimmick, anyway.

  43. Rick Wright says – reply to this

  44. UglyMichelle says – reply to this

The gay mafia is at it again. Being against gay marriage is NOT homophobic. If you treat gay people badly just because they are gay then you are homophobic. Why can't you bullies get that the Bible is against gay marriage and leave people alone who choose to believe. Just stop. This isn't cool and it's nothing to rejoice about. These people were not going to preach anti-gay marriage and stuff. Man, you liberals say you are for free speech but you aren't. If it doesn't conform to YOUR beliefs, you are against it. Will people finally get sick of the Gay Mafia and Bullying? I'm sick of it and I don't care if you are gay, straight or what, just shut up and leave me alone. I don't care about your sexuality and you shouldn't care about mine.

  45. uglymichelle says – reply to this

Re: Tiggy – HGTV knew they're background early in development of the series. They also told HGTV they would not decline anyone based on race, sexuality. HGTV had NO ISSUE with them until the GAY MAFIA started whining. What more do you bullies want? I really hope they sue, in fact I hope the guy from Mozilla sues and on and on. What is going on isn't fair. It's bullying. Just say to to the GAY MAFIA!

  46. Mandy says – reply to this

You are one of the most intolerant people out there. Not everyone is going to have the same beliefs and to bash them or bully them because of it, is wrong. If the Benham twins father is against same-sex marriage and relationships, that doesn't necessarily reflect the beliefs of the Benham twins. To stage protests, sign petitions, and send hateful comments to HGTV and demand that they cancel a show because of the belief of someone's father is a bit too much. These men didn't deserve to have their careers thwarted because a bunch of intolerant people cannot handle that someone out there doesn't agree with their personal beliefs.

  47. taylor says – reply to this

It's not their father beliefs that got the show canceled. The twins are supposedly anti-gay and anti-abortion extremists. It would be nice if people actually did their research before they make an article.

  48. sam says – reply to this

I don't see anything homophobic about those men. I'm so glad that I stopped watching HGTV a few months ago because of that annoying Hillary b!tch that seemed to be on there every time that I flipped on that channel. I won't be watching HGTV again in the future after hearing about this though.

This is NOTHING like the Duck Dynasty crap. This is just another blown out of proportion nonsense story that the media will not shut the h#ll up about because they love stirring up anti gay controversy while they act like they care so much about gay people. Money hungry hypocrites !!!!!

  54. Carol L. Haddad says – reply to this

I am 83 and I want you to know how pleased I am that you cancelled the upcoming October program featuring the twin brothers and titled "Flip It Forward". They can be as prejudiced as they desire, but then those of us who are not, do not have to listen to them. Thank you for not being afraid of the RELIGIOUS RIGHT!

  55. LT says – reply to this

Wow - the last line here says: Boom! Equal rights 1, intolerance 0. Apparently intolerance can only happen on one side of this particular issue. I would like some PROOF that these boys discriminated against any gay person - refused to do work for them, refused to hire them, etc. or do they simply disagree with a gay lifestyle? Is this is why you are charging them guilty in the court of public opinion? Or can you seriously not understand the difference between intolerance and someone simply not agreeing with you???? I am intolerant of bullies like you. I am 100% opposed to a gay lifestyle, my gay friends know this and we speak about it frequently, they are 100% opposed to my Catholic lifestyle, but we are still friends because here's the deal, we see each other as people - not as "gay" or "Catholic" and they know that not agreeing is different than condemning. So quit spreading hate — if you truly feel that people who are opposed to a gay lifestyle are hateful, you really need to look in the mirror.
