Congrats to Clay Aiken!

The former American Idol alum announced his campaign for North Carolina congressional seat back in February.

Fast forward to three months later and he's won it!

Despite the tragic lost of his opponent, Keith Crisco, Clay got more than 40 percent needed to win in the race.

But don't celebrate just yet! The official result will be announced by the state elections board after the meeting to review the results that is tentatively scheduled for May 22nd!

It was a close race, with Keith coming in second place. But his campaign manager, Christine Botta revealed that Keith had decided to concede his loss to the 35-year-old before he died.

Is it really a "win" when your opponent dies after a very close race?
Well, I wish Clay good luck against the Republican candidate in North Carolina.

I don't really think it's appropriate to congratulate someone that wins something because someone else has died.

Even if won this regardless of the death, the headline is still in bad taste and insensitive.

I checked it out for you people. He won it fair and square. Apparently Crisco had his campaign manager contact the Aiken camp the morning of his fall, and said he would be contacting Mr Aiken on Tuesday morning to officially concede. Unfortunately he fell that afternoon. His family must be devastated. It's always nice to get the facts before you comment.(it would have been nice if Perez had done that before he printed this piece)

Re: barb – Thanks for the facts barb, appreciate them very much.
My absentee ballot for the California elections went out in the mail today (only way to vote IMO).

Re: barb – as I said, even if he won outright, the headline is horrible. My comment had more to do with the way Perez addressed this story than the story itself.
