The Black Keys Think Michael Jackson 'Cockblocked' Them From Getting The #1 Album! And What They Said About His 'Bad' Music Is Even Worse!

| Filed under: Music MinuteMichael JacksonGIFs

the black keys

We just released a groan that would put Marge Simpson to shame.

In a recent interview, Patrick Carney of The Black Keys went on a tirade against Michael Jackson and the posthumous release and success of Xscape, calling it 'bullsh*t':

“It’s the classic story of Dan and I. We want to have a #1 album, but Michael Jackson releases something from the grave and cockblocks us.”

Nice way to respectfully talk about the dead, Patrick! We're slow-clapping you real hard over here.

Meanwhile, at the 2014 Hangout Festival, the other Black Keys member Dan Auerbach expressed his frustration as well:

"We got a new record that just came out this week. We hope everyone went and bought it so we can beat Michael Jackson on the Billboard charts."

Dan even went so far as to say to Rolling Stone that it took 3 whole years to make MJ's music "listenable":

“[It's] some f*cking bullsh*t that sucks so bad that it took them three years after he died to make it listenable. Like he had to be dead for three years for it to be released.”

Yikes. Just yikes. We get they want to be number one, but their words might be a little insensitive.

It's a harsh way to phrase it, but they're completely right.

kinda disrespectful. Ive never even heard of the black keys….

  4. 4

They shouldn't blame Michael Jackson. They should blame the people who are using his memory and his music to make money.

MJ's demo vocals and beats released from the grave exceed anything the "no talent" black keys could ever hope to create.

I don't know who the Black Keys are but they're right. His songs suck and seeing as he is dead they shouldn't be releasing an album to make a easy money. The people who should be getting called disrespectful are the ones who released this album, it's not to do with honouring him it's all about money, if you wanted to honour his life and his career… It should have been for free.

The King of Pop….too bad, so sad. Anyone that cant respect what he did for music is the sick f..k! Music that he made decades ago is relevant today and will make $$….more than the black Whatevers…who certainly wont be relevant in a few years…thats fo sure!

These two no names are haters. Get some better music and you also will be timless like Michael Jackson. You do not know good music if it hit you in the face. Stop complaining and get a better PR person to promote your music if you want to be better than anyone else.

They are making a wry joke about "just their luck". Why even explain it? And The Black Keys are pretty awesome. As far as making money off Michael posthumously? Hey its capitalism, dontcha just love it????

    14

You guys calling them "No Names" don't know anything about music then. You are just sticking up for MJ because he is mainstream and you do not do your research. Maybe their wording was a tad bit off, but if you think about it, you can't blame them. They are musicians who base their income and lifestyle off of their music career and making it to number one is a huge deal (Obviously). I'm sure it can be frustrating that MJ beat them out, not only three years after his death, but also because those songs weren't number one. It is only because he is the "King of Pop". He is basically titled number one no matter what.

It really isn't fair to The Black Keys because they are an amazing group.

Re: Laurie – ….no names? The Black Keys are amazing. Obviously they don't have a title like "The King of Pop", but that doesn't mean that they are no names? They work hard and deserve a little appreciation. Maybe you should do some research

    16

This is written from a terrible perspective. Michael Jackson is dead and the fact that he was made into a hologram is totally disrespectful. What is important, though, is that the Black Keys shouldn't take this personally. There are millions of musicians trying to get there name out there let alone be number one. Try to have some humility Black Keys and keep it real Perez x x x Guillaume

woop woop everyones screamin not fair but the numbers speak for itself….mj isnt pop but we should respect his music and lol to the guys who said it sucks cuz creatively he still kept up with the current market with more innovation…its kinda stupid so cry about being 2nd to MJ…like is that a question? the basically had the number 1 album cuz everyone is 2nd to MJ

  21. lovehate says – reply to this

    21

lol Black KEys soar losers…its wrong to diss Michael in this…there still a huge market for his music and he worked his ass off to at least and the markets speak for itslef it was like number 1 in 52 countries..not much respect for the greats…MJ made the best songs of our generation for five decades…

  22. @v@ says – reply to this

    22

Just some dark pro musician humor. MJ would likely laugh at this himself, imo.
