Nazira Maria Cross, the woman who allegedly poisoned and buried her husband back in 2008, has finally been caught.
After a six-year manhunt, complete with her own episode of America's Most Wanted, Cross was taken into custody Thursday morning in Peru.
Sgt. Steve Peay of Nevada's Plumas County Sheriff's Office says Cross poisoned her husband in their vacation home near Lake Tahoe, and even convinced neighbors to help her load him in the car, saying she would take him to the hospital. He says:
"Nazira gave several accounts of his whereabouts. before she admitted that Michael had passed away and she had failed to report his death and had buried him."
The body was found shortly thereafter but while authorities awaited autopsy results, Cross disappeared.
Peru's own federal police apprehended Cross after a recent rebroadcast of information about her. They are coordinating with the FBI to send her back to the U.S. to face prosecution.
