But if you're worried about how authentic Lifetime is planning on making this film, don't be!
It sounds like they're going to make Aaliyah: Princess of R&B as close to the late singer's life as possible. This includes touching base on her alleged relationship with R. Kelly.
It was reported that the Try Again singer was illegally married to her then-music producer when she was only 15 and he was 27 years old.
Executive producer Debra Martin Chase revealed that they're definitely taking precautions when it comes to this part in Aaliayh's life.
"Aaliyah's personal and professional relationship with R. Kelly will be explored with care in the film as we set out to depict her life with the utmost respect. Above all else, it’s our hope to inspire an entirely new generation with her music and larger-than-life talent."
Erm…we're not sure how to feel about this.
On one hand, a film about someone as beloved as Aaliyah should portray all aspects of her life, but on the other, it's such a touchy topic!
There's no doubt there's going to be some backlash on this portion of the movie, regardless of how tastefully done it may be.
