charli xcx hilary duff turned down song boom clap whoops

Hilary Duff totally missed out on a great song!!

This year has been a pretty good one so far for Charli XCX, even though the number one singer she wanted to write for turned her down.

In an interview, the SuperLove singer recalled the time when her biggest girl crush turned down her song. She said of Boom Clap:

"I've had that song for about a year, I wrote it with Patrick Berger.

My number one project as a songwriter is to write for Hilary Duff, so when I heard about this, I was like, 'f**k! Are you serious?! This is my 'in!' I'm going to make a Hilary Duff album!' So we sent over Boom Clap, but they came back and were like, 'this isn’t cool enough for Hilary."

I was like, crushed. I thought I was a cool writer, but maybe I'm not. Hilary didn't want my song. What a life-ruiner."

Maybe this will help reconnect the two and make Charli's dreams come true!

That musical rejection wasn't the only one that has happened…

Vicki Lawrence's "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" was intended for, and rejected by, Cher.

Boy Meets Girl intended "Waiting For A Star To Fall" for Whitney Houston. When Whitney's management rejected it, Boy Meets Girl recorded it themselves and had a huge hit with it.

Richard Marx submitted "Right Here Waiting" to Barbra Streisand, then changed his mind when she wanted the lyrics changed.

Also, Michael Jackson wanted to sing "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" with Streisand, but she didn't like the song.

Also, the song "A Whole New World" from Disney's "Aladdin" was originally to be a duet between Michael Bolton and Celine Dion (who of course had their own hit songs from Disney movies). Instead a duo with considerably less star power - Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle - got the job. The song went #1 anyway.
