The Daytime Emmys Drew More Controversy Than Viewers With THIS Rape Joke! What Were They Thinking??

daytime emmys red carpet coverage controversy rape joke

The Daytime Emmys were live streamed online only this weekend. But maybe it's better they didn't make it to TV.

Hoping to snag the elusive millennial demo, the National Academy Of Television Arts and Sciences went with some unusual choices with its red carpet coverage.

Vloggers Brittany Furlan, Lauren Elizabeth, Jessica Harlow, and Meghan Rosette seem to have been hired strictly for their presence on social media, because things like poise, good humor, and respect were definitely NOT on their resumes!

Not only did the foursome seem to recognize less than half of the daytime TV stars they interviewed, they couldn't keep from groping most of them!

The harassment of the hunky guys came to a head with General Hospital star Ryan Paevey, to whom Furlan spouted:

"We're going to get you away from us before we rape you."

Wow. Not OK, guys.

The constant stream of come-ons and off-color jokes (literally - they introduced The Bold & The Beautiful's Lawrence Saint-Victor as a "beautiful chocolate man") got a strong social media reaction alright!

Twitter exploded with viewers demanding that NATAS fire the foursome and apologize!

Something tells us these ladies won't be up for any statues themselves next year.

Lauren Elizabeth is the biggest bitch Youtube has ever seen. Can't wait for her "career" to end.

Have not watched in a couple of years since they cancelled two of my favorite soaps on ABC and no way I would watch this online.

All of them were horrible, tacky and completely disrespectful! I could not believe the idiocy that was coming out of their mouths. I ended up muting them. They acted as if the whole thing was a comedy routine (not even a funny one). Instead of showing any real interest in the actual celebs they were suppose to be interviewing, they made it all about them. Their whole "look at me" attitude was rude. I had to stop watching when the one girl kept yelling at the guy "breathe on me…breathe on me!!!". WTH?!?

Oh my goodness, could these articles get any less stodgy? What is this 1926? Furlan is a comedian, this should have been all but expected. I personally laughed my butt off through the whole thing. Very, very funny stuff. Good work girls.

Re: MJaded – You are so right on about them. They were horrible, rude and offensive.

    Re: MirandaM
Good work?!? They were not there for a comedy routine. I don't think that should be so hard to understand. This was a night for the real celebs (the ones who actually work in daytime). This is their one night a year to get dressed up and celebrate daytime. They disrespected everyone they "interviewed". They could not be bothered to do ANY research about ANYTHING. Some of the celebs even skipped the red carpet just to avoid them. They were the lucky ones that managed to make it inside with their dignity.
Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to the producers of shows like this. Just because someone can get idiots to follow them on social media, it does not mean they have intelligence or even common sense.
The backlash from this is well deserved!

This is so stupid, These girls are popular purely because of their outrageous personalities, and funny Vines, so their behavior should have been expected, and if thats not what was wanted they should have hired someone else. Not the girls fault, they did what they always do. I think people just need to chill out and smoke a J or something haha.

    Re: JustAGirl
Maybe the "vine girls" should have looked around them and noticed how many big names in daytime television were there. I am not just talking about the actors. There were plenty of directors, producers and writers there also. One of them should have thought "Hey, instead of acting like brainless cats in heat maybe we should show all of these people how professional we can be." They were too busy trying to show off for the cameras for one night instead of thinking long term.
I am done with this and I am just thankful I will never have to see any of them ever again.
