The Bachelorette Finally Addresses Contestant Eric Hill's Death On The Show — But Did They Do It Properly?

Last night's episode of The Bachelorette was a tearjerker!

While the reality show has addressed the tragic April death of former contestant Eric Hill, last night's episode documented when Andi Dorfman and the rest of the cast found out about his untimely passing.

First, the news was delivered to Andi from host Chris Harrison that her former potential husband died in a paragliding accident and then he addressed the other men.

Chris told the group of men:

“You all know Eric Hill. He — a couple of days ago — was in Utah paragliding and was in a serious accident. We knew he was hurt bad we just didn’t know how bad. We learned this morning that he passed away.”

The way the producers handled the traumatic news has left many fans upset.

Many questioned whether Eric's death was exploited for ratings since the reality series is known to capitalize on drama.

We must try to cut ABC a break though. It has to be REALLY difficult to deal with this sort of subject matter. It is hard to remain on the fine line between ignoring a man's life and reminding viewers distastefully over and over again.

This is not what happened on the episode. Andi and the four guys were told together. The quote you have from Andi was actually Chris Harrison telling the entire group.

It was not Andi that told the remaining bachelors it was the host Chris Harrison!!!

Did you even watch the episode? That's not how it happened.

Did you even watch the show? Andi found out at the same time the guys did. Like J said, that quote was from Chris Harrison, the only thing Andi did was cry. Even the crew members and producers came out on camera and consoled the men and Andi. This was probably the most real the show has ever been since you never see the crew on set and even the grip and sound guys were crying.

Did you even watch the show? this is not what happened. Andi and the other contestants were told at the same time…. and yeah the quote is Chris Harrison, not Andi. Yikes.

Chris Harrison was the one that said that! Plus, they talked about it on the very first eipsode. They dedicated the season to him. They also addressed it the night he was sent home!

I am so confused, didn't they announce his death in a previous episode when Chris decided to not have a rose ceremony? Why is did he say that they only found out that morning when it happened weeks ago? Thanks

Re: L – That was the episode where he was sent home, and being that the show is taped in advance, they simply chose not to air the rose ceremony that night [they did film a rose ceremony that week, which was aired during the following weeks episode where they recapped the season] The clips of Chris Harrison and Andi talking about Eric in the episode he went home in were from present day, a month or two after his death. The footage from the episode that just aired was them being told he died in real time, as the show was still filming while it happened [and they "had" to tell them about it because the suitors have no access to social media or anything like it while they are filming].
