True Blood Actor Nelsan Ellis TEARS Into Former Co-Star By Confirming He Quit Over Playing Gay!

nelsan ellis slams former co star luke grimes for quitting trueblood over gay storyline

Ugh, we were SO disappointed when we heard the rumors that Luke Grimes quit True Blood due to a gay storyline with fellow co-star, Nelsan Ellis.

Now we're even more let down after we read what Nelsan dished to Vulture about his co-star's abrupt departure from the show. After reading Nelsan's comments, we have more evidence to believe that Luke left because he didn't want to play a bisexual character!

Nelsan reveals:

“I mean, I can say I’m not going to make a comment, but I just think that, you’re an actor, you’re an actor on a show that’s ‘True Blood'. We’re all sitting there going, ‘You quit your job because…really?’ I’m just… I’m over him. You quit your job because you don’t want to play a gay part? As if it’s…You know what? I’m going to stop talking.”

Wow. Just…wow.

Hey, Luke…..do you know Alan Ball, the creator of True Blood, is gay?

…or that Anna Paquin is a proud bisexual?

To further hammer down his point, Nelsan said:

“You make a statement when you do something like that. I did a documentary called ‘Damn Wonderful,’ about gay suicide, and you make a statement, a big statement, when you go, ‘I don’t want to play this part because it’s gay.’ If you have a child, if you have a son, and he comes out as gay, what are you going to do? If you have a daughter who comes out gay…? You just made a statement, and it has ripple effects.”

Preach, Nelsan!

It's so endearing that the STRAIGHT actor is such an amazing LGBT ally. It's proof that you don't have to be gay to support gay people and their rights.

Well, now that Luke was replaced with the fabulous Nathan Parsons, we have no doubt the show will continue to have a great last season.

And Nelsan, thanks for taking a stand!

Thank you Nelsan!! My thoughts exactly. That actor is an idiot and unprofessional. He knew what his character was, if he couldn't handle it , don't do it to begin with. Ryan and Alexander, both straight, can do it, why couldn't he?

While I think his reasoning was stupid, it is still his right to step away from something he wasn't comfortable with. If he knew from the beginning that this is where his character would be going, then he shouldn't have taken the part. But if he didn't know then he had every right to quit. He didn't go out and bash his character or the show. He simply quit. He never said that being gay was wrong…it's just something that he was not comfortable doing. Just because he's an actor does not mean that he has to perform every task that he's told to. He is entitled to his opinion and feelings just like everyone else. People need to stop jumping on him…if he didn't know his character was going to be gay then he did nothing wrong.

Alan ball isn't the creator of true blood, that distinction would go to Charlaine Harris, he would only be the guy who adapted it

Wow so now a guy is a jerk because he doesn't want to kiss another man? Or because he doesn't want to do raunchy sex scenes with another guy? What the hell direction are we going !!!!!!!!! WTTTTTTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: TC1026 – I totally agree with you. How is it any different than if someone decides not to do nude scenes because they aren't comfortable with it. I don't see where your outrage comes from, he's not bashing anyone for being a homosexual. But you certainly are bashing him for exercising his free will. Which one is actually more reprehensible?

Re: Isabel629 – are you serious? You my dear are an idiot. If your boyfriend comes up to you and says Paul & Judy, and Fred & Ethel want to swing so I can't see why you are uncomfortable with it what are you going to do? Screw other guys because others are fine with it but you are not? If an actor or actress feels uncomfortable doing any part they should not feel forced to. Female actresses should not feel forced to make out with other woman if doing so makes them uncomfortable, ditto nude scenes, bedroom scenes with any actor or actress. If this guy knew going in what was required but at some point he did not feel comfortable doing it he should not be bullied or feel forced. That dear lady is sexual harassment. As for the LBGT community, they need to figure out that just because a straight guy doesn't want to shove his tongue down another guys throat on camera doesn't mean he hates gays, is a homophobe, closet homo, or anything else. Maybe he just finds it revolting.. Think of porn. You don't see all the straight guys "acting" gay on screen do you?

Oh my Perez! I wonder if you would have called out a gay for not wanting to do a hetero sex scene! I saw the episode, the guy takes it up the ass repeatedly! He has every right to walk away from that. It doesn't mean he has anything against the gay populace, he simply doesn't want to do it on national TV. You're a bully Perez.

    Re: Rmummert
A TV show is a separate entity with a creator of its own regardless of whether it is an adaptation. True Blood doesn't really follow the books, Ball created a show that is loosely based on Harris's Southern Vampire books.

    Re: ForeverWyld
Sexual harassment? Do you even know what acting is?! Actors are expected to separate themselves for their characters and be willing to play characters that do not behave or share the same lifestyle they do. When they sign a contract for a TV show, they agree to play whatever is written in the script. The fact that Grimes quit because his character is bisexual shows he is not a true actor as he is only willing to play characters that are within his own comfort zone. Real actors can separate themselves from the characters even if it makes them uncomfortable - acting is supposed to be challenging. Do you think actors enjoy all the parts they play? Like rapists and murderers? No, but they do it because that is their role. Grimes was happy to play a blood sucking vampire, but drew a line at bisexual? In this day and age, that's ridiculous.

For the people stating it's his right to not play a gay character. Sure. But why take a role on True Blood? I mean, the whole town has had giant orgies with everyone. If you go up for a role on a certain type of show, give it your all, or just don't audition.

  12. SunsetStripRocks says – reply to this

Let's see…take the lead role in the highly anticipated "50 Shades of Grey", OR go back to a secondary role in the last season of a TV show? I believe his choice was more about that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: TC1026 – I agree with you! How does anyone know what he was told when he was hired? People need to stop judging others when they have no idea what really went down. It doesn't mean the actor is a homophobe or has a problem with homosexuality in general. People can be uncomfortable with a situation but that doesn't at all mean they are haters. Everyone has the right to their opinion and choices for themselves!

  16. Afiya says – reply to this

He made a choice. It doesn't mean he hates gays. In his mind he may have thought there would be a part in the script where he had to kiss another man and he's not into it. I would not want to kiss another woman. It's my preference. As for the comment about what he would do if his kid came out gay.. Well, it doesn't mean he would disown his kid. He, himself, is not into the gay lifestyle at all. Each person has their own likes and dislikes and people need to stop saying things like, "Oh he's a gay basher because he won't kiss another man." That doesn't mean that at all. It means he is just not that lifestyle. Stop trying to force everyone to do gay actions just because you like it. You can't make people eat brussel sprouts if they don't want to. Everyone doesn't have to share your thoughts on every subject.

Did this guy not realize that True Blood is a huge "gay" show? Even characters that are straight like Sookie's brother Jason have had to film gay scenes for dream sequences because of a blood connection to a vampire. Personally, I don't give a shit if he chooses not to do gay roles. That's his business, but he can't say he didn't know that he might have wound up doing something "gay" on this show of all shows. I can see if he auditioned for Who's the Boss or some shit and he wound up playing a gay character, because homosexuality is not a common theme on a show such as that, but True Blood? Come on son! You KNEW you could possible wind up taking or giving it in the butt!

  18. 18

He did the right thing. Promoting sexual perversions and the homoqueer agenda is wrong.

Re: NONEYA – I stopped watching after the fifth season, but during those years it is absolutely not true that everyone had some gay scenes. Jessica did not, Jason did not, Sookie did not, Sam, … In fact there were not that many gay scenes and it involved only few characters, so I wouldn't be surprised if that actor really didn't suspect that his character will turn bisexual. What I read, it is only this season which turns each character into gay.

Re: IzzyLizzy – my thoughts exactly. How can you blame him for making a stand on his beliefs. I wouldn't want to play gay part either. That's that.

  21. Lance says – reply to this

This is not a gay rights issue this is a guy who doesn't feel comfortable putting playing a role and he quit. He didn't make any disparaging remarks against gays or anything of the sort but because he doesn't want to play a homosexual all of a sudden he's a bigot?

  22. tacogirls says – reply to this

Fuck You Perez….You're the one who ruins people's lives…
Do you have the whole story?….No of course not.
You're always eager to jump on the Gay Band Wagon…
You sould be a Bit more Objective and not post things unless you've Got the Whole
YOU ARE AN IDIOT, A complete ruiner of lives. You are Such a Bigot Its' unbelievable.

I’m a proud LGBT supporter. This never-ending discussion as to why one actor quit his role on True Blood is ridiculous!
It’s his choice to play which ever role he is comfortable playing. Stop bulling this actor for making his own personal choice. Stop turning this into a homophobia example.
He didn’t hurt anyone, offend anyone or any group…. and putting words in his mouth and translating it to homophobia is irresponsible.
Everyone including you Perez need to move own and stop witch hunting this actor.

I fully expect the next Gay actor who refuses a role that requires him to preform sexual acts with the opposite sex to be racked over the coals, I find that doubtful
