Woody Allen Responds To Latest Round Of Criticism: I Won't Hire A Person Of Color Unless It's 'REQUIRED'!

Woody Allen just opened himself up to even more criticism!

Besides accusations against the acclaimed actor for molesting his daughter, Woody is now being accused of being discriminatory in his casting.

Many have noticed that Woody rarely casts African Americans in his movies, but he was still "horrified" when he was asked about it.

Woody responded:

“[I won't hire a black actor] unless I write a story that requires it. You don’t hire people based on race. You hire people based on who is correct for the part. The implication is that I’m deliberately not hiring black actors, which is stupid. I cast only what’s right for the part. Race, friendship means nothing to me except who is right for the part.”

HOLD UP. Doesn't he usually write the parts???! Another question could be WHY he DOESN'T include black characters in his scripts — you know, seeing as we live in a world with people of many shapes and colors.

To be fair, Woody HAS cast the Latina vixen Penelope Cruz, and he did cast a black actress to play Josephine Baker in Midnight In Paris, but one would expect that he would have a little more variety in his characters seeing as he's been involved with more than 70 films.

Well, Woody isn't alone!

I disagree with Woody about 98% of the time,
but on this I agree with him 100%
People should be hired, because they are the one best qualified, not because of race and gender
Why are we going to have a Black Little Orphan Annie ????

Wow, for once I actually AGREE with Woody Allen. Art shouldn't be censored, politically correct, and changed to fit a forced definition. Props to Woody for speaking his mind and freely expressing his art. And if people don't like it they don't have to see his work. I will :)

He should hire whoever is right for the part..why make a news item out of every fucking thing?

The reason Woody Allen does not hire black people is because he doesn't write stories about black people. He usually writes about uppercrust white folks. Blacks don't make intelligent stories in NY because they don't exist without an NFL team, rapping or fighting. Thanks - J

Woody Allen said he hires people that are right for the part and does not consider race. He should be championed for doing what he wants, but libtards find any reason to be offended.

Sorry but this is old news. He hasn't written about African Americans and people have been pointing fingers at him for years. People tend to write about things they know or can relate to. It makes sense. Would you be happy if he choose an African American instead of another ethnic background? He's free to write and cast as he wants. Now if he did something Political incorrect then you can point fingers. Ted Danson dated Whoopie Goldberg and put on black face as a joke. That was unacceptable. However he was in love with her at the time. People pointed fingers at them and they should of left them alone. God Bless America where people are free to write and date who they choose!

It could be he does not know how to write for an African American person. No racism, just not knowing how to capture the essence of a character. And who fucking cares about this shit anyway? Just another pointless question to stir the race-pot and distract us from the really serious problems like the invasion from Central America, the still crappy economy, the Senate failing to do ANYTHING about immigration, etc.

Calling foul on this one. We live in a multicultural world. Every cast of every film should look like the United Nations. Every good actor can play any part regardless of race…Hollywood/Disney/Woody-films do not represent the beautiful melting pot that is the world today.

It's the same like the Tyler Perry films. He mostly writes his material that , yes can be for anyone, but is geared toward a black audience. He writes his parts to who he feels fits the part. The same like Woody Allen. Both of this people, like I'm sure other film writers, tend to write certain stories for certain people because that's their style. So I don't see this being a big deal!
