The world has been waiting more than 20 years for a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire. But even though production was in the works on a second film, it looks like Mrs. Doubtfire 2 will likely be canceled due to Robin Williams’ sudden death yesterday.
The 63-year-old actor had said several times in the past that a sequel to the film simply wouldn’t work but he changed his tune eventually and was attached to reprise his iconic role.
Director Chris Columbus, who also directed the original movie, spoke about losing not only his star but his true friend, saying:
"His performances were unlike anything any of us had ever seen, they came from some spiritual and otherworldly place. He truly was one of the few people who deserved the title of ‘genius.’ We were friends for 21 years. Our children grew up together, he inspired us to spend our lives in San Francisco and I loved him like a brother. The world was a better place with Robin in it. And his beautiful legacy will live on forever.”
Robin still has four other films that are set to premiere in the coming months.
