Guardians Of The Galaxy was such a big hit, Marvel announced the sequel before it even came out!
OK, we don't know how that works, but it just does!
And if you've seen the first one, you know there's one big mystery hanging over Chris Pratt's head that could play a huge part in the sequel: Who is Star-Lord's father??
"It's definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I'll say that much."
In the comics, Peter Quill's father is royalty from an alien race (that looks totally human) called the Spartoi. If that's not the case here, there are a LOT of possibilities! Gunn says:
"There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill's father is, and things like that, between a select two or three of us. That's been part of the plan since the beginning, that's something I had to work out and I worked it out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu's place in everything made sense and it does, so it's all very specific stuff."
Hmm… Who could his father be? Let's speculate with some heavy movie spoilers!
Peter Quill's mother tells him his father was an angel, made of pure light. This former herald of Galactus is one of the only Marvel space characters that fits that description. Also, Stardust, Star-Lord.
Again, we have the "Star" connection. This sometime Avenger is Thanos' brother and a notorious lothario. Definitely capable of seducing an Earth girl and leaving her in the lurch.
This magic man is a long shot, but he WAS a member of the Guardians team in the comics, and he's already been seen (kind of) in GOTG and Thor: The Dark World. The big blob with all the wires in The Collector's museum has been confirmed to be his cocoon in which he heals himself every few years.
And if he was hibernating, it would also make sense why he needed Yondu to bring young Peter to him and couldn't go himself.
Anyway, that's all just guesses. Mostly we're excited to go in NOT knowing! It's going to make it all that much more fun!
