Kathy Bates May Have Been Surprised About Her Emmy Win, But You May Be Surprised Who She Almost Dedicated It To!

kathy bates almost dedicated her emmy win to robin williams

This is such a sweet story!

Kathy Bates was a surprised as anyone when she beat Julia Roberts to win the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A TV Miniseries Or Movie, but it was very well deserved!

What surprises us, however, is that the American Horror Story actress was thisclose to dedicating her win to the late Robin Williams!

Were they secret friends or something??

Well, Kathy revealed an anecdote about her encounter with Robin afterwards, explaining why she wanted to do it.

She said:

'When I won my first major award for Misery — a Golden Globe — they didn't have cell phones and I was waiting at a pay phone to call my mother afterward and I didn't have a quarter. I turned around and asked, and Robin said, 'Here's a quarter to call your mother.'

[When I lost the Oscar] He came to me and said, 'I really wished I could have had your name in the envelope; are you OK? I know how hard it is to lose.' He was so kind to me.

I never forgot that kindness. I almost wanted to say, 'Look, I own this time and this is for you,' but I was just so … nervous'

Awww! That would have been such a heartwarming thing to do!

But we're glad she decided to share the story of Robin's kindness anyway!

Congrats to Kathy on her win!

Didn't she win the Globes and the Oscar for Misery?

That's bullshit, she won the Oscar for Misery.

She was great in Misery, isn't that where she has a scene trying to park her car, some teenage girl cuts her off, and she bangs her car into the teen's car? Always wanted to do that but my insurance would go sky high.

Re: Travis – It's not bullshit. She won an Oscar for Misery, but it's not the loss she was talking about. She was nominated twice more, and the one she lost that Robin was presenting was for Primary Colors in the late 90s. Judi Dench won for Shakespeare In Love instead. Anyway, sweet gesture. You can tell she was taken aback when she won the Emmy. Lovely woman. Robin is continually missed.
