The Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik Puts Ariana Grande On Blast!

| Filed under: Music MinuteAriana Grande

Someone does not like a certain billboard…despite the fact that its subject is sometimes on the top of the Billboards!

The Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik has some objection to an ad featuring Ariana Grande.

In a recent post she wrote on her Kveller blog, the actress slammed the pop star's appearance, despite not exactly knowing who she was:

"So, here's my deal: I'm socially conservative even though I'm a liberal. Confused yet?

I am a bleeding heart liberal without exception. But I am old-fashioned. My kids have clothes they only wear to synagogue. I don't favor my kids cursing. I dress modestly. I don't want my kids learning about sex from billboards. Stuff like that.

Which is why a few billboards I have seen lately really bug me. There is one for Ariana Grande, and I will go ahead and admit I have no idea who she is or what she does. Based on the billboard, she sells lingerie. Or stiletto heels. Or plastic surgery because every woman over 22 wishes she has that body, I'm sure. Why is she in her underwear on this billboard though? And if she has a talent (is she a singer?), then why does she have to sell herself in lingerie? I mean, I know that society is patriarchal and women are expected to be sexy and sexually available no matter what we do in society, but I guess now I need to explain that to my sons?"

Now, we're not sure exactly which billboard Mayim is referring to, but it's safe to say that based on her mention of "lingerie" and "stiletto heels," the ad is actually the cover art for Ariana's new album My Everything.

Apparently, sex does NOT sell for Mayim.

We'll see how this growing celebrity feud continues!

Mayim is right. This smug faced little girl looks and dresses like a pedophile porn star.

I think Ariana has a good voice but that's about it. It's so sad to me to see such a talented girl who waste away as another industry robot. It's like she doesn't have her own personality; she is basically a mix of every single successful singer. It's almost like they came up with a recipe for the perfect singer with a dash Katy's sexy, a sprinkle of Taylor's cuteness, a touch of Miley's raunchy, a cup of Mariah's sassiness, and an entire serving of no identity.

What a prude! The picture she's talking about is the one above, and it's SO tame! It's in black and white, there's no tits and ass hanging out, and the 'lingerie' shows less skin than what bikinis show- which are worn across the world's beaches, pools, and amusement parks. And her pose isn't raunchy either.
Her comment about talent was just a bitchy and illogical way to insult someone for not conforming to her Traditional Values Crowd teachings. Talent is not determined by whether or not someone always dresses modestly- Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera have been talented, but they've shown more skin than Ariana has and have incorporated sexuality in some of their music. (Ariana can sing too, so that also debunks her skin showing= no talent argument). It can also be argued that Pink and Beyonce have some talent (although not as much as the other two) and they've also shown skin.
I guess her post is a combination of the feminist "All Skin and Sexuality is evil Patriarchal Oppression and Exploitation of Females, no matter how consensual and natural" argument (one of the many reasons why I just can't with feminism) mixed with the religious 'rules' about modesty/sexual purity (one of the many reasons why I just can't with religion). I guess the way she insults and attempts to discredit another woman based on physical appearance and sexuality is just sooo progressive and totally Crushes The Patriarchy! Am I right? #sarcasm

Re: #shitpuritanssay – I think you are missing the big picture. Answer Mayim's question, "why does she have to sell herself in lingerie?". You are so used to seeing women portrayed this way that you think it is normal. That is really sad.

Re: rosebud99 – because she's 21 and she can do whatever the FUCK she wants to do. so get ur life

  11. 11

I am with Mayim!!!! I don't want my daughter thinking it's okay to dress like that. It's not, leave something for the imagination!!!!

  12. 12

Totally agree, this oversexualized society makes me sick to my stomach, and it's not just about exposure to kids, it's also about having your man see sex every fucking place you turn, leaving you feel like you have to live up to these ridiculous sexual expectations.

  13. crying says – reply to this

Thank God she is Jewish, not Christian.
Otherwise, Perez would have (with pleasure) exaggerated the whole story (as usual) and would have certainly added his usual dishonest interpretations. Add to this, all those atheists, seizing the opportunity to vomit once again on the Christianity… Yeah… It is well known the atheists are so braves, so much they never dare to pick on Muslims or against Zionists…

  14. 14

Re: noonecares – Don't kid yourself, she's not doing what she wants to, she is doing what her record company deems necessary to sell records. It may be in vogue to sell taking your clothes off as empowerment, but you have to be young and stupid to buy that.

  15. Amanda G. says – reply to this

Re: noonecares – its BECAUSE she's 21 that makes it pathetic. Whats worse is that she looks way younger than she really is…to me she looks like a 10 year old in lingerie and its gross. Ariana is a total dumbass. Don't like her.

  16. liz says – reply to this

what an idiot. maybe she can sit her boys down and explain to them that people are naturally sexual creatures and there's nothing wrong with expressing that sexuality once in a while? i have a feeling her kids are going to grow up extremely repressed with really ignorant opinions and views on sex. people who pretend sex isn't a totally normal thing and shield it from their kids are the ones most often stuck with teenage pregnancies.

  17. noonecares says – reply to this

Re: Amanda G. – There's nothing wrong with younger than your age. She has a baby face, so what? You act like she choose her face LOL… You people are too use to kids wearing makeup on instragram that ya'll forget what real KID looks like. ten year olds don't look like that. She looks at least 16

  18. 18

She plays a desperate horny nerd. Just giving it up. Explain that to your kids as well.

  19. 19

Re: liz – Oh fuck off. God forbid someone has a different opinion than you.

  20. SAYITLOUD says – reply to this

SAY IT, GIRL! I'd rather see some talent around, than skin. I TOTALLY AGREE

  21. 21

Wish she and her bitch of a brother would just disappear. The both are very annoying.

  22. harleymutt says – reply to this

Re: rosebud99 – Exactly!, girls today have been sold such bullshit that if you aren't a size 2 and if you don't strip or show skin then you are nothing and will never get ahead, how many male CEO's men in power do you see stripping or half naked? if you are a singer then fucking sing and quit stripping, the only people you are empowering are men because they can STILL make you feel as if you have to do it and it will never stop for women until we STOP doing it.

  23. 23

    I totally agree with her!

  24. 24

The ugly jew is right. Whoriana should cover up and scrub toilet bowls like her kind was born to do.

  25. *** says – reply to this

People saying Ariana can sing? I don't hear it. Screaming in a paper-thin voice while not knowing how to enunciate your words is not signing nor talent.

  26. tim says – reply to this

If you're are as ugly as Mayim, I can imagine how jealous she's of Ariana.

  27. Tamzin says – reply to this

    Re: rosebud99
She is just bashing Ariana because she's herself so ugly.

    Equally jealous as Mayim?

  30. Lotti says – reply to this

Mayim was silent about this for many years and now when it concerns Ariana she comes suddenly with such comments. So Mayim, who paid you for bashing Ariana? You're comment is clearly not sincere, else you would have come with it 10 or 20 years ago.

  31. Rona says – reply to this

    Re: ***
    She cannot sing?
    Please have your ears checked.

  32. *** says – reply to this

Re: Rona – My ears work fine, dear. Right now they're listening to singers who can actually sing.

  33. KC says – reply to this

Re: Lotti – Right. She specifically waited all this time to plot against Ariana, because her agenda against her is what???

  34. Grander says – reply to this

    Mayin Sounds jealous…..

  35. Taape says – reply to this

First off let me say I think both of these people are extremely talented, but I don't care about their personal lives so I have no biased favoring. Although I agree with Mayim about our society's obsession to sell sex, I don't believe it was appropriate to specifically point out Ariana's ad. It almost came out as an attack because I certainly don't believe for one moment that she doesn't know who Ariana Grande is especially afterwards when she quote on says "And if she has a talent (is she a singer?)" So you do know she's a singer then Mayim? Acting like prude does not give you credibility. Rather than full on blasting an upcoming young artist who grew up in this industry with this ideology planted in her head maybe try a different approach to this matter.

  36. Sam says – reply to this

Mayim is absolutely right! Ariana should stop copying her older predecessors. Do some thing original and keep your clothes on.

  37. KC says – reply to this

Mayim makes an argument as to how society has these standards as to how women are supposed to look, and some people responded by calling her ugly. You just proved her point.

  38. Rudolf says – reply to this

Who the hell thinks Mayim she is to tell Ariana what to do? Mind your own business lady.

  39. manon says – reply to this

Re: Sam – Mind your own business and don't tell Ariana what to do. It's her carreer not yours.

  40. Jo says – reply to this

I don't find Ariana Grande appealing, but it's not my problem if she wants to be another hypersexualized singer either. Mayim has the right to her opinion, but her opinion does not make her right.

  41. stephs says – reply to this

Re: #shitpuritanssay – She didn't really express herself as clearly as I would have liked… i think what she is getting at is that we are so used to seeing women portrayed sexually all the time that we do it is normal. But the question is still there, WHY do women see the need to sell things like albums, cosmetics, movies, anything really while half naked? Men don't usually get naked for their album covers or whatever (yes i know there are exceptions to this but mostly its women who are half naked in advertisements not men) and we find this totally normal and we don't even question it anymore.

Re: crying – lmao atheists equally don't believe in ALL religious bullshit . Don't think you're special because your Christian . Secondly Christians persecuted and murder atheists for years , so it's kind of ironic that a Christian is crying about being bullied by atheists

  44. ..... says – reply to this

Mayim is very known for shoving her opinions down others throats. She is very advocaty about so many things. It's annoying. I bet her sons will be huge mamas boys, and anyone they date will have to be jewish and will never compare to their mommy. I feel bad for her sons.

  45. trc says – reply to this

I understand the Mayim Bialik is a concerned parent and she's looking out for her two kids, but there is no reason to call out Ariana Grande. Don't leave it to society or advertising to raise your child. Mayim Bialik is the parent here, not Ariana Grande or a Levi's ad. If young guys and girls are dressing like thugs and whores, I'm upset at the parent for letting the kid walk out of the house dressed that way. Parents need to be parents. Dont rely on the television and billboards to do your job. Talk to the kids and be honest with them. Don't expect tv to teach them right and wrong.

  46. 46

I love how the people on here who side with Ariana take the stance that Mayim is "ugly." You are proving her point. Latching onto the idea that her appearance somehow makes her points invalid and saying she is less attractive because she doesn't conform to media ideals. Also, Mayim supporters seem to be able to back their opinions and have more to say. Ariana fans resort to name calling and anger. Two signs, most commonly, associated with low intelligence or knowing you have no real argument to be made. Mayim is correct. Artists should be able to get by with their craft, not resorting to selling their looks.

    Re: Tamzin
"She is just bashing Ariana because she's herself so ugly."

And that rat-faced guidette is pretty?

    Re: Rona
    "She cannot sing?
    Please have your ears checked."

Oh, please. She's just a glorified high school talent show singer. She doesn't have a unique sound, because she's too busy trying to sound like everyone else.

  48. 48

She has a great point - that being said I'm open to people expressing themselves however they want and Ariana looks hot! :)

  49. 49

First of all, she obviously knows who she is…let's get real. And honestly…just because you feel something doesn't mean you have to vocalize it. There is nothing wrong with the way Ariana Grande is dressed. It is not pornographic in any way, shape or form. Maybe Mayim caught her husband looking at the billboard or something and got her grandma panties in a twist!!! lol

Re: harleymutt – If your children are looking towards celebrities, and the like, to create their own identities then you aren't doing your job as a parent. It's what your family puts into a child, not the industry.

Re: Taape – Very well said!

  52. Kayy says – reply to this

I'm seriously sick of this mentality that everyone else is responsible for people parenting for some else's kid.

It's no one's fucking problem but your own.

Stop being so fucking sexist. You can wear as much as you want, and anyone else can wear as much or as little as they want. Jesus.

Maybe it isn't about 'selling', and she likes to dress that way? Maybe she feels liberated? Maybe she feels most like herself? Who the hell are you to tell people that they can't be themselves?

  53. Kayy says – reply to this

Re: styler – Yeah, that's the part I understand the least about this. How the hell can you call yourself 'as liberal as they come', and think you can police what women wear?

Jesus, I know there's a whole spectrum of political leanings and even liberals that are somewhere in the middle of conservative and liberal. This woman is clearly disillusioned and claiming she is what she isn't to seem 'accepting'.

  54. Kayy says – reply to this

Re: KaraAlissa – To be honest I'm on the side of Ariana simply because I'm a feminist. Sure, I like her music, but I don't know enough about her as a person to care otherwise.

I think Mayim IS beautiful [As is Ariana. Seriously, fuck whoever called her a Guidette. Don't use racist terms], and it's a shame to see she thinks this way, because I always assumed she was so much more open and progressive. Her interviews in the past seemed to suggestive that. I mean, I didn't care much about her since I obviously don't know her personally, but she at least SEEMED accepting. As a feminist I'm always for women who support that.

    Clearly I was wrong.

  55. Kayy says – reply to this

Re: Amanda G. – So because someone can't fucking control how their face looks, they're pathetic?

Fuck you. It's not her fault. Like it's not my fault, at 25, I'm mistaken for a 16 year old. People practically laugh when I buy alcohol.

But it's pathetic and creepy, right? Something TOTALLY out of my control, but god, I'm so gross. I shouldn't be allowed to wear what I want because people might think a minor is being revealing.
