Raven-Symoné Clears Up Her Controversial Comments About Not Being African American

| Filed under: DisneyOprah WinfreyRaven SymoneInstagram

Raven-Symone & Oprah

By now you've definitely heard about Raven-Symoné's controversial Where Are They Now? interview with Oprah.

In the special, Raven finally opened up about her relationship with AzMarie Livingston and her distaste for labels.

However, while abolishing said labels, she also made a few statements about not being African American that were bound to be taken the wrong way…

And they were.

But as never being one to back down, the 28-year-old ex-Disney star cleared the air about her misquoted claims, saying:

"I never said I wasn't black, I want to make that very clear. I said, 'I am not African American.' I never expected my personal beliefs and comments to spark such emotion in people. I think it is only positive when we can openly discuss race and being labeled in America.

I don't know where my roots go to. I don't know how far back they go…I don't know what country in Africa I'm from, but I do know that my roots are in Louisiana. I'm an American. And that's a colorless person."

No one can say she doesn't stand by her word!

But we totally get what Raven meant. Independently of being black, she is an American.

And as an American, she happens to be dating a woman.

Just don't call her gay.

Well why would she be 'African American' obviously she is just american! Do you hear black people in other countries calling themself African English or African Australian? No! About time somebody pointed out that Americans are just that Americans!! No Italian Americans, African Americans or Spanish Americans just plain old Americans

She's not the first black person who's said this and she won't be the last. A lot of people feel this way.

I thought it was over for me when my ex left. I gave all i have for the relationship to work but it was
all failure. 4month after my partner left me for another person, i was introduced to prophet James
and he helped me bring back my ex in 48hrs. Now we are fully married and i am 2months
pregnant. I promised prophet James that i will tell everybody about him if it works. I am very glad
for living a happy life with my love. He did it for me and i am 100% sure that he will do yours. I am a
living example. you can contact him on prophetjamesspelltemple@hotmail.com

I like this chick more and more.
First she was cute and funny on that Cooper show, and now she seems smart too.
More people like her in the entertainment news, and less Kardashian.

Raven is correct.Labels are great for selling TV air time and cheesy newspapers but do nothing to show who people really are
