Annie Lennox Clarifies Her Criticism Of Beyoncé But Will Queen B's Fans Forgive Her For The Slight?

While Annie Lennox may be cool with Beyoncé, she still isn't down with Queen B's twerking.

If y'all don't remember, back in September Annie made some controversial comments about Beyoncé's feminist influence (or lack thereof), calling her 'feminist lite.'

Naturally, the singer's comments caused an uproar amongst Beyoncé's fans and supporters, so much so that Annie was compelled to address her opinions in a recent interview.

She explained:

"Well, I didn't specifically criticize Beyoncé. I was being asked about Beyoncé in the context of feminism, and I was thinking at the time about very impactful feminists that have dedicated their lives to the movement of liberating women and supporting women at the grass roots, and I was saying, 'Well, that's one end of the spectrum, and then you have the other end of the spectrum.'"

Hmmm, okay, at least she wasn't calling out B specifically…

She added:

"Listen, twerking is not feminism. That's what I'm referring to. It's not—it's not liberating, it's not empowering. It's a sexual thing that you're doing on a stage; it doesn't empower you. That's my feeling about it…Maybe this is a good thing because it creates debate."

Well, Beyoncé is definitely more than her 'twerking,' Annie, and we're sure her fans would agree!

While we have a feeling Annie's clarifying comments won't help the situation too much, we think it's positive that she attempted to calm things down!

Beyond has become a total drag. I guess everyone can't be as classy as Alicia Keys or Annie Lennox.

Frankly, those of us who are fans of Ms. Lenox and her music could truly care less about what Beyoncé or her fans think - about this comment or anything else.

And I am fairly certain that Ms. Lenox is not concerned in the least about whether or not "Queen B's fans forgive her for the slight".

I'm pretty sure Annie Lennox doesn't really care what Beyonce's fans think of her. Two totally different spectrums.

IIt is so detrimental for a powerful role model like Beyonce to label ass shaking as empowerment and feminism. She should be called out specifically.

They've been offered an open invitation to chat with Ms. Annie Lennox. I'd sure call her up.

Re: MyrnaTyrna – you seem to be contemplating it enough. the beyonce fans don't care what annie lennox or her fans have to say either. were paying it dust, so is beyonce. Beyonce does not respond to any negativity her way, she just keeps shining her light on you basic hoes

Re: MizzBoobBoo – No, no, no. Annie is her own legend, and dust has nothing to do with Ms. Lennox. That shows a terrible lack of respect. What if, in her wisdom, because she's seen a few decades, she knows something the younger ones haven't come up across yet? She does, you know. It's not negativity at all. She cares about the women performers, and knows a thing or two about the effect on self esteem the over sexualized images can possibly have later as they look back on why they felt they had to do things a certain way. Good music stands on its own. It doesn't require half nekkid butt humping. Tina shook; but she NEVER humped.

Re: MizzBoobBoo – Dust my ass. I've seen Annie perform live. Now, I've seen just about every artist from the last 50 years perform live, and more than once; and also personally know a thing or two about that. This woman was touring with and opened for Sting. She WIPED the floor with her on stage presence, soul and vocal power and precision, and her sound system wasn't as good as his was. I'm a tough audience, and she's earned her cred with me.
