This is ridiculous! And offensive!

It's ridiculously offensive!!!

Mindy Kaling was in the Big Apple earlier this month attending a party at the Trump SoHo New York hotel where she encountered a bizarre experience!

The actress and television stalwart was there for a Q&A panel for the 2014 New Yorker Festival to talk about her show The Mindy Project when a "tipsy man in his 80s" made her entirely "speechless" after he "cornered" her and gave her a bizarre compliment.

It was bizarre because the person the compliment was meant for was so obviously not her!

The man apparently said:

"Congratulations on your Nobel Prize."

The compliment was apparently meant for Malala Yousafzai - the 17 year old Pakistani education activist who survived a Taliban attack - who won the esteemed prize and became the youngest person ever to do so in the process.

After the encounter, Mindy was in complete shock. But not shocked enough to not know who the man thought she was. She was quoted as saying:

"Did he really think I'm Malala? And that if I were, I'd be at the Boom Boom Room? That's the best thing that's happened all night."

Ha! We're glad she had a sense of humor about the whole thing!

She later tweeted:

"Is it bad that my first reaction was 'YES!!! SHE IS 17!!!'?"

Lolz!

Whatever silver lining she can garner from such a meeting is fine with us!

She could have easily been super offended, and we wouldn't have blamed her one bit!

We hope that man, whomever he was, lays off the alcohol in the future! It's obviously not helping him avoid major mistakes in life!!!

You know what's offensive? The fact that you found this encounter offensive. First of all, the man was drunk. Second, he has most likely only seen these people in pictures. I am told that I look like Kate Hudson on an almost daily basis, and I certaintly don't find the comparison offensive. And, apparently, Mindy Kaling doesn't find a drunk man's comparison offensive either, so… Why do you, Perez?

Were you trying to leave the subliminal implication that it was racially offensive? There is nothing controversial about what happened, if anything it was satirical demonstration of the drunk man's ignorance. Yet somehow, Perez, you have once again managed to take ignorance a step further and exploit race for the sole purpose of creating controversy.

    You are a malevolent degenerate.

why is it offensive to be mistaken for Malala?!?!? She is an amazing inspirational person, just like Mindy. Its so sad that you found that to be offensive.

I'm making over $7k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. This is what I do… www.Yelptrade.com

Perez, I'm all on board for anti- bullying but you take sensitivity to a whole new level. First of all, Mindy wasn't offended so why should you be? Is the sole purpose of your site to express your disdain and how offended you are with practically every current event? Like I said, it is important to treat everyone with respect. But seriously… Chill out.

Offensive? So, not only had the man been drinking, but he's in his 80's. It was an honest mistake. At least he congratulated her for it, but you're acting like he spit in her face and claimed she didn't deserve it. I understand you think it's offensive because he thought she was Malala because of their skin color. Maybe we should all just refrain from speaking to people out of fear a simple mistake may offend them.

Hats off to you, drunken 80 year old man, for having the courage to walk up to a hero and congratulate her on an amazing achievement, even though you were mistaken on her identity, and it wasn't actually her. You TRIED to do a nice thing, and honor someone.
