12-year-old Ronin Shimizu of Folsom, California, ended his own life after enduring years of bullying.

Before he was recently enrolled as a home student with Folsom Cordova Community Charter School, Ronin went to Folsom Middle School and was reportedly the only boy on the cheer team.

Apparently, Ronin had been bullied since elementary school, and, according to messages posted on his Instagram, he was further picked on for being a cheerleader.

The school has stated that it had investigated each instance of bullying, and responded with "appropriate action for each instance," claims a school district spokesperson.

A candlelight vigil was held near the Shimizu home on Thursday.

Our hearts go out to the Shimizu family and all of Ronin's loved ones during this tough time.

We hope bullying becomes a thing of the past, so that needless deaths like this one never happen again.

We need to take away the stigma of suicide, and using the term 'committed suicide' is no longer appropriate, as it implies that it is a crime. The term to be suing today is either 'died by suicide' or 'suicided'. Please change your language.

There has to be a way to help keep these types of tragedies from happening. I am compelled to do something but I don't know what.

This bullying crap needs to stop!!!!
My 12 year old son's best friend killed himself a few months ago, after moving to a new school and being bullied. He was an amazing young man, just as I'm sure this boy was. My heart breaks for his family.

Re: John – Bravo to you for piling it on the victim by questioning why he had an Instagram at 12. Big thumbs up Mr. tough guy. Guess that must mean he deserved to be bullied.
