Don't You Dare Call Evangeline Lilly A Feminist! Find Out Why She Hates That Word HERE!

Evangeline Lilly on feminism

Evangeline Lilly may have a knack for playing strong female characters on the big screen, but that doesn't mean you should call her a feminist.

While the 35-year-old actress enjoys the thrill of playing a kick-ass female lead, she doesn't want to be bogged down by labels, especially the term "feminism."

The Hobbit star explains:

"I'm very proud of being a woman, and as a woman, I don't even like the word feminism because when I hear that word, I associate it with women trying to pretend to be men, and I'm not interested in trying to pretend to be a man… I want to embrace my womanhood."

While we understand and applaud the sentiment behind the comment, we disagree completely that feminism means manliness!

A woman can be an advocate for gender equality and still own her femininity!

It's time that word lost its bad rap!

She really needs an education in the history of women's rights! Guess what - you can embrace your femininity and still be a feminist! Saying that feminists are women trying to be men is absurd. Without feminists we would not have the right to vote, access to higher education, recourse for sexual harassment in the workplace. I could go on and on. It makes me so sad that so many younger women are so clueless about feminism.

Oh god. This made me roll my eyes so hard. I'm so tired of people who aren't educated on feminism continue to associate it with male bashing our male appropriation. First off, feminism is for everyone, men and women. Men CAN be feminists. It's 2014, lets get educated. It's not controversial, it's equality. #peaceandloveyall

Ignorant. And by the way, you're welcome.

Re: rosebud99 – I agree with rosebud, now if we could only get equal pay for equal work, that would be fantastic.

    speaking of dumb celebrities…

being a feminist means you believe in equal rights for men and women
it doesn't mean you believe women who want to be recognized as feminine should deny their femininity
    how ignorant can you be
educate yourself before you make statements that influence millions of young girls who look up to you

Feminism is obsolete in the modern west. PERIOD. It was progressive the last time when the spice girls had their debut. You should read up on a bit what damage has it caused already…

Equal vote= common sense, equal pay= common sense, make rape illegal= common sense, i don't need to be a feminist to realize, rape is bad, or half the citizens of a country should be allowed to vote.
Voting and sexual assault are mostly just common sense, of course sexual assault or domestic abuse is wrong, no matter what your gender is, i don't need to be a feminist to realize that is wrong.
    Everything else is just stupid,
Objectification is also bullshit, women objectify as well, which is why just as many toned abs as there are topless women in films.
Men are seen as "champions" when they get laid, because it's a lot harder for them to get laid, there are pros and cons to being a man.
I don't believe in slut shaming, but the fact is women don't deserve much congratulations when they get laid due to the fact that in society, women just sit in bars and wait to get hit on rather than being proactive,i.e actually having the courage to go up to a guy and risk being rejected) (in general, not ALL women)

Re: luly myers – Hi! No one said femininity was bad. That's not why we're mocking her. We're mocking her because she apparently, idiotically, thinks that feminism means you want to be manly.

Feminism doesn't mean you shouldn't call people of either gender out on their stupidity. It's about equal rights between the genders. She's a moron.

So, what was the damn point of fucking up The Hobbit movies with a female elf because of Feminism, she's said so herself in terrible interviews. But now suddenly, she's no longer a Feminist? She should better get back into the kitchen and care for her husband and newborn baby she abandoned for The Hobbit trilogy, seeing as she's not a Feminist.
