This is unimaginably tragic.
The team did release a statement on the matter, though (below):
At least they realized it was in poor taste.
Anyone who has been listening to the hugely popular podcast Serial knows that a certain payphone outside of a Best Buy has been a semi-big player in the case.
"We have everything you need. Unless you need a payphone. #Serial"
In case you're not familiar with Serial, it's a podcast investigating the 1999 murder of Hae-Min Lee, and the convicted killer Adnan Syed. Though, the point of the podcast is to investigate all of the angles, including if Adnan is actually guilty.
Best Buy saw the error in their ways, and tweeted a subsequent apology, saying:
We deeply apologize for our earlier tweet about Serial. It lacked good judgment and doesn't reflect the values of our company. We are sorry.
— Best Buy (@BestBuy) December 11, 2014
Adnan has been in jail for 15 years for this crime, and it remains to see what will happen following this podcast.
We're just glad Best Buy backtracked.
