Beyoncé Gets Slapped With A Lawsuit For Using A Hungarian Singer's Vocals Without Her Permission In Drunk In Love!
Uh oh, Beyoncé has found herself in a bit of hot water and no, we're not talking about the proverbial hot water she rode her surfbort in!
A Hungarian singer by the name of Monika Miczura Juhasz, aka Mitsou, is suing Bey for stealing and using her voice on the hit track, Drunk In Love.
Mitsou is claiming the singer recorded her voice back in 1995 when she was singing a traditional Roma folk song and used it without her permission.
"Mitsou's voice was sampled and digitally manipulated without her permission.
[The sampling is used] to evoke foreign eroticism alongside the sexually intense lyrics performed by Beyoncé and Jay Z in 'Drunk in Love.'"
The suit then goes on to detail how many seconds the Hungarian singer's voice is featured in the song.
It goes on to read:
"In the video, Mitsou's solo vocal introduction follows 57 seconds of a cinematic, intimate scene of beach at night. Following Mitsou's stirring featured solo vocal introduction, Mitsou's voice continues to sing as Beyoncé begins to sing.
All together, Mitsou's vocals are featured for over one and half minutes of the five and one half minute song. Mitsou has never signed any documents that would permit anyone to use her voice for advertising or trade purposes."
It's also noted that Jay Z raps alongside her vocals in the song.
Mitsou said she first learned of this when her friends called her after hearing her voice in the beginning. She is seeking unspecified damages.
It's really inneresting how this comes to light shortly after the song gets nominated for a Grammy… a year after B's self titled album was released.
If it was a problem before, wouldn't this lawsuit have come to light earlier this year??
Just a thought.
