School Punishes Blind Child By Replacing His Cane With A WHAT?!

Two parents from North Kansas City are outraged at their son's school for the way they treated him, and you just might feel the same way too here in a minute!

Dakota Nafzinger is an eight-year-old student at Gracemor Elementary School, but an incident on a school bus left him feeling humiliated and caused his family to be VERY upset!

Dakota uses a cane to get around school since he was born without eyes — a medical condition known as Bilateral Anopthalmia.

Recently on a school bus the driver took away Dakota's cane because he believed the he was using it in a violent manner against other children… and to replace the cane, they gave the child a pool noodle.

Seriously. They gave a blind child a pool noodle.

And his mother Rachel Nafzinger is unsurprisingly super upset! She said:

"Why would you do that? Why would you take the one thing that he's supposed to use all the time? That's his eyes."

The school says that Dakota was using his cane to hit other kids, and that since they issued him the school cane in the first place, they felt they had the right to take it away from him as well.

Again this child is EIGHT YEARS OLD!

And to ease Dakota's way of fidgeting without his cane, North Kansas City School District Spokeswoman Michelle Cronk claims the school decided to issue the pool noodle as a way of giving him something to hold on to until his two week punishment is over and he receives the cane back.

Dakota is NOT a fan of the replacement. He said:

"They said they were going to give me this for the next two weeks…Can't feel things."

His father Donald Nafzinger is also super upset. He believes his child's school is doing all of this to "humiliate" his son. He said:

"All around, he's a good little guy, and he shouldn't be treated the way he's being treated."

We agree that it is a problem IF Dakota was actually hitting other children with his cane, but to take away something he literally needs so he can get around and to replace it with a limp pool noodle is just NOT okay in our book!

However, a few people have already mentioned they would be willing to buy Dakota his own cane, so he wouldn't have to be at the mercy of the school's, so hopefully that happens!

Well then stop utilizing the cane in the wrong way and he can have it back.
You can't whack people with impunity. It's just one of those life lessons.

Being a blind little kid auto-sympathy is generated but if he'[s really a little bastard who happens to be blind and is whacking other kids with his cane then he needs serious discipline. (If this is the case then apparently his parents treat him with kid gloves, literally, and do not take him to task for acting out).

He's blind, not stupid. Time to learn that actions have consequences. I'm sure his parents will go ape shit and sue the school - because money solves humiliation.

Those parents are going to enable him to use his disability to get away with murder. I'm glad the school did what it did.

This is a human rights issue. The school removed this child's sight. The school should be sued or shut down. How could anyone do this to a fellow human being? This 8 year old child needs a german shepherd guide dog as well as a cane so if children are saying mean things or teasing him he will be safe.it is easy to get out of the way of a blind 8 yr. old child's cane and the children that are playing the victims here have lots of options to keep their distance…an option the blind child doesn't

I really don't get it why he doesn't have his own cane. They got a car?

I cannot understand those of you commenting who believe this is a good idea for punishment. Assuming that he did this, of course he should be punished. Other kids have gotten in trouble for hitting their classmates and have gotten punishments such as detention. I think this was a terrible decision on there part. I'm a cane user, and I can only imagine trying to use a noodle in its place.

The cane is a human rights issue. Whacking other humans with it is too.
A parents knows they have to deal with that. One causes assaulting injury, while the other causes temporary stranded frustration.
