Earlier today, President Obama remarked that he thought Sony made a mistake in pulling The Interview from theaters.

Now, Sony CEO Michael Lynton has issued his own response, and claims that the company had no other option but to pull the movie as a direct result of theaters refusing to show it:

"We have not caved. We have not given in. We have persevered, and we have not backed down. We have always had every desire to have the American public see this movie… [W]e had no alternative but to not proceed with the theatrical release on the 25th of December. And that's all we did… The unfortunate part is… The President, the press, and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened. We do not own movie theaters. We cannot decide what will be played in movie theaters… I did reach out. We definitely spoke to a senior advisor in the White House to talk about the situation. The White House was certainly aware of the situation."

Well, this is quite a different tune than what we heard this morning! Obama seemed to indicate that Sony didn't reach out!

Sound off below if you believe that Sony had no other option to pull the film! Did they cave?!

Sony had no option, even my discount theater which usually shows this kind of movie refused to play it, they had no choice. What do you want them to do, setup a screen on the beach in Santa Monica?

Let's be honest here, all the funny parts of the movie were in the trailer anyways. Everyone's basically already seen the movie.

The president needs to stay out of other people business. He and Sharpton get involved when they shouldn't. I would never believe what Obama says….He only knows how to lie.

People do not understand….these Execs are calculating….there is more money to be made by caving now and releasing later.

The president making any type of comment about the movie was a "bonus"…for the Execs. And the Prez looks like a hero. Explain to me again how this this lump of coal of a movie turned into a diamond?
