20.000 people die per WEEK worldwide (1.5 million people per year; over 35 million people total so far) of HIV/AIDS related illnesses -and not just in Africa, but everywhere. Did you know for instance that 6 out of the 9 countries with the highest new HIV rates now are in Asia and not in Africa? Nobody panics about these figures, but we do panic about ebola, where the chance of getting infected is quasi zilch? It's a strange world we live in.

Since I have no plans to visit Africa in the future (I am sure it is nice but too far to fly for me), I'd worry more about dengue fever in the Yucatan (there is no vaccine). So use lots of Deet.
