We still can't get over how wonderful this is!
19-year-old Kaitlyn Smith lost over 200lbs the good, old fashioned way — with diet and exercise. Then, Miami-based Dr. Michael Salzhauer heard about her story and wanted to help transform her life.

So, he decided to do her skin removal surgeries pro bono!
We were able to get in touch with 'Dr. Miami' himself, and he gave us lots of great info about this type of surgery:
How much does this type of surgery cost on average?
Each stage costs around $15,000. For a total of $45,000 or so for the three surgeries.
How many of these surgeries do you perform each year?
I perform approximately 250 abdominoplasties (Tummy Tucks) a year, about 350 breast surgeries, 100 arm and thigh lifts and around 50 back/bra line lifts.
How young can a person be to have this performed? What age was your youngest patient?
Strictly speaking there is no age limit or minimum age per say. As long as one is healthy, medically and psychologically. I have performed similar surgeries on patients as young as 17 years old.
How much weight do people usually lose before it becomes necessary?
It depends on one's skin elasticity. 'Skin elasticity" is a measure of how "stretchy" the skin is, which determines how well it "snaps back" after weight loss. It is an inherited genetic trait. Some people need skin excised after as little as 30 pounds of weight loss. Although the average patient has lost more than 60 pounds.
What's the key to a quick and healthy recovery?
Living a healthy lifestyle, eating a good diet and exercising regularly helps people get in shape to ensure a smooth recovery. Smoking cigarettes or being around smokers is a big no-no. I am confident that Kaitlyn will do well and recovery smoothly.
Sounds pretty cut and dry — excuse the pun! — but still completely wonderful!
