Selena Gomez’s Exposed Ankle Causes Controversy For Disrespecting Muslim Culture!

Who would have ever thought an ankle could start so much drama?!

Yesterday, Selena Gomez deleted a photo off of her Instagram where she was shown at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi exposing her lower right leg.

While this ankle cleavage is considered modest in Western society, showing off one's lower gam is considered disrespectful in Muslim culture.

To make matters worse, The Heart Wants What It Wants singer also posted a group pic where her, Kendall Jenner, Cody Simpson, Gigi Hadid, and Shay Mitchell are at the mosque laughing and smiling — two things that are also no-no's in the Muslim religion!

The 22-year-old has not yet released a statement regarding the controversy.

We want to know whether YOU think Selly flaunting her ankle is an honest mistake, or a true sign of disrespect! SOUND OFF in the comments (below)!

SMILING is a no-no in the Muslim religion??

  3. JB says – reply to this

I don't blame her, I blame the progressives who claim Muslims are normal people and their religion is no different than other religions.

What other religion kills people for drawing pictures of a prophet, or refuses to allow woman to drive or go to school. And yet, progressives have turned republicans into women haters, and excused Muslims for their actions.

I wouldn't be surprised if Selena is h Ted down for this. Muslims are not good people for the most part.

put it this way, what if a non christians enters a church n make noises n shows disrespect is that ok? n what if a non jew enters a synagogue n make noises n shows disrespect is that also ok? no right??? so whatever the religion it is, pay respect to each others religion , holy places and believes for a better tomorrow :)

You need to live in the UAE before you start making comments about flashing ankles, laughing and smiling . I'm an expat lived there for 31 years and never been pulled up about anything. It's an easy life and horror of horrors I wear shorts

  6. ana says – reply to this

    Re: stopracism – EXACTLY!!

  7. CJ says – reply to this

What is the fascination Muslim stuff anyway? I would be terrified to go anywhere near a place that is ruled by stiff Sharia laws!!

  8. ana says – reply to this

ISLAM does not forbid smiling and laughing BUT it is so disrespectful to enter the mosque and keep on laughing. SHOW SOME REAPECT!!

  9. harleymutt says – reply to this

You don't go into other culture's and disrespect their beliefs, rude and immature, if a celebutard from another country came here and spit on the flag all u bitches would be pissed, what these bitches did is no different.

  10. Az says – reply to this

Hi Perez, I'm a huge fan of yours, and I'm muslim :)
That's why I need to tell you that you really need to rephrase this following sentence because it's WRONG and it can easily get misunderstood:

"Gigi Hadid, and Shay Mitchell are at the mosque laughing and smiling — two things that are also no-no's in the Muslim religion!"

It's Okay to speak or laugh or do whatever you please as loud as you want inside the mosque, as long as you don't disturb anyone at the mosque.

  11. Chloe says – reply to this

Hold up, I visit that mosque all the time as a non-Muslim and have been in photos smiling. It was never pointed out as an offence/even had the guides hold the camera for me as I did it. I can understand why maybe it's not 100% appropriate but going so far as to suggest everyone is outraged over it is stupid. There are tourists there all the time taking selfies! Also, the UAE is one of the more liberal gulf states so suggesting that it's offensive to show an ankle there is wrong. What is thoughtless is displaying it intentionally in the mosque. But I doubt it was deliberate. And NOBODY is talking about it here so it's hardly an outrage?

  12. Az says – reply to this

Re: Az – oh right, I can assure you that I had MANY loud laughs and conversations at the mosque (while nobody was praying near me).

  13. kat says – reply to this

    Hello everyone.
Please do not bother you for me, I'm just passing through for a simple question to Perez.
Does he still believes that religion is evil incarnate?

  14. naya m says – reply to this

Whoever wrote this is probably the most ignorant person. Do some re-search on religion before accusing someone of disrespecting it. Smiling & laughing is a no-no? That;s the most racist bullshit I have ever read. Very offended. Ugh. People like this that make Islam seem so negative???

  15. Cyme says – reply to this

Islam is a religion, not a culture.

  16. I'mwaitingforananswer says – reply to this

    Hello everyone.
Please do not bother yourself for me, I'm just passing through for asking a simple question to Perez.
Does he still believes that religion is evil incarnate?

  17. Sarah says – reply to this

You go to another country you respect their culture end of story. Shame on her people and her….but I mean…she was likely invited there because of fans so it's a catch 22.

  18. LOVE2015 says – reply to this

Its an honest mistake! Look, I would understand if Selena WAS a Muslim who was born and raised in America and when she went out there she showed SKIN, then THAT would be disrespectful! BUT she's just there to visit with some friends and have FUN!

  19. Natascha says – reply to this

Ha ha ha. Are you saying that smiling and laughing are not allowed in islam? Seriously do you hear yourself? Why dont you shut the fuck up before you write about a subject you dont know shit about. That is disgusting that you're trying to paint islam as a negative fucked up religion. But hey, it's media right. I loved your blog. But seriously fuck you. I've lost all my respect for you.

  20. Fuckers says – reply to this

If you choose to visit a MUSLIM country, then fucking show some respect. Behave like a guest that you are. And that is for everyone writting shit about muslims in the comments.

  21. frank says – reply to this

I guess we're not supposed to get offended when they harbor terrorist. Burn the American flag or P has an American.
whatever, she should show a lot more there

  22. james says – reply to this

Re: harleymutt – early because if I recall correctly Justin Beaver do the same thing she's here from Canada and one night while she was drunk out in the middle of the streets when he thought nobody was looking he was pissing on an American flag oh and FYI considering the fact that when Muslims come to our country's we have to show them the proper respect to their religious beliefs anyways it should only be common courtesy that when you allow guests into your home does she respect their beliefs as well

  23. SMD says – reply to this

Smiling and laughing is a no no? I'm a muslim and this is no where near correct. Who ever wrote this article is one dumb son of bitch who tried to make the religion look bad.

  24. Afshi says – reply to this

Wth are you talking about Perez?? Do your research before you talk about Islam! Smiling and laughing are encouraged in Islam. One of islam's main mottos is "smiling is charity". Get your facts straight dude

  25. Shavon says – reply to this

at the end of the day if someone of this caliber went somewhere and did something that caused a big dispute and they knew it would they probably wouldn't have done it in the first place because what reason does selena have to disrespect muslim tradition or culture selena doesn't have a lack of respect maybe she has a lack of knowledge so when you talk about her think about the times you did something and didn't know it was wrong because we all have

  26. Muslims says – reply to this

  28. Sabz says – reply to this

1st: Islam (being muslim) is a religion, not a culture. The Arab culture has been rather conservative dating back to pre-islamic times, so it is really crucial not to confuse Arab culture with the peaceful teachings of Islam.

2nd: Smiling and laughing is NOT looked down upon in Islam (this is yet another thing where many confuse religion and culture). Smiling in Islam is actually HIGHLY encouraged in Islam (it's sunnah).

I encourage everyone to do some unbiased research on Islam, hear what the scholars like Mufti Menk have to say, etc. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised :) .

    A Proud Muslim Woman

  29. Dan says – reply to this

Well, she's young and uneducated, plus she hangs out with the low brow Jenner girls. What do you expect? But the bigger question is: who is that rich man who's paying her to have sex with him and others? Wonder how much money she made?

  30. jim says – reply to this

    Re: naya m

    Bite me, terrorist bitch !!!

  31. bobbie says – reply to this

Re: Fuckers – take a chill pill. Your language alone is disrespectful. This is not a national incident. They probably paid her to be there.

  32. George Douglas says – reply to this

Being beautiful, happy, free, safe, and educated are all against the Muslim religion for women and girls. Why she went to a country that enslaves women and girls in the first place shows she puts money over principals of freedom and Christianity.

  33. StopIlliteracy says – reply to this

Re: JB – I blame you for your illiteracy.

  34. Ossif says – reply to this

It's called respect, I'm a Muslim women and never would go into a church to take selfies or pose for silly pictures because that's were people go to worship and seek peace. Oh and in Abu dubi you don't have to cover for everyone's information many Muslims wear European brands and don't cover so she could have pose and wore whatever anywhere else it would have been fine, but she want to go to a prayer hall and make fun of how people have to cover in there. If you can't respect others worship place don't go, stay at the beach or the many night clubs Abu dubi has.

  35. EW says – reply to this

Many of you have written insightful comments, then followed them with ignorant remarks like "Muslims are not good people for the most part"
    I would consider the following:
    1. Most Muslims are kind, loving, peaceful people and it is a small percentage who are extreme
    2. All religions have examples of extremists who are a danger to other religions me those within their religion
    3. I personally find it offensive that a woman must be shrouded and deprived of basic human rights in any religious context or otherwise. It is ALWAYS wrong when one sex is held in higher regard than another. While there are flagrant examples in the Muslim religions, Conservative and Orthodox Jews segregate men and women and require women to cover their shoulders. I am sure there are also countless examples across other religions, for example the shrouds worn by Christian Nuns.
    4. The focus here should be MEN and women standing up for women's rights. On liberal and less conservative members of a religion speaking out against exfremists.

  36. oman says – reply to this

    They should respect our customs

  37. George Douglas says – reply to this

Re: stopracism – There is a difference between sensible religions and ultra hateful extreme religions. With Muslims, almost anything a woman does, other than being a slave, is wrong. You are right in one aspect, she should have never entered a Muslim country, that way she could not have offended the disgusting Muslims. On the other hand you paid disrespect to my religion in your comment when you didn't capitalize the word Christians.

  38. George Douglas says – reply to this

Notice that when Muslims are stoning girls to death, beheading Christians, burning Christian churches, killing priests, using little Christian girls as sex slaves, and lining up hundreds of people and shooting them in the head liberals and the liberal media, along with so called moderate Muslims don't say much. But to draw a cartoon of their "prophet" or preach Christianity in any Muslim controlled country is the death penalty because they are barbarians and savages. They have been for over 2,000 years and they won't change. They do not belong in a civilized world. Just because someone follows a religion that hands the head of a Christian to an 8 year old boy, doesn't mean you should respect or accept the existence of that so called religion. When our forefathers stood for freedom of religion they surely didn't mean to allow evil murderous savages to practice that in America.

  39. deletethisshitofasite says – reply to this

why are you trying to make muslims look bad ? you're so effin dumb perrez. Smiling and laughing is not forbidden in Islam . However, posing like they're in a sort of party in front of the mosque is indeed very disrespectful. People go there for peace and to pray, not for fun so it's normal some of them are offended.

  40. freedom says – reply to this

Re: George Douglas – What an ignorant and stupid thing to say. There are always extremists in every religion, but dont go blaming the whole club because of a few bad apples. What about the priests who got caught molesting small child? Or the so called faithful devouters who hate LGBT even if its their own child? Or the white cops who shot black people? You can't even control racism in your own country and you want to educate other people about religion? Look at yourself first before you wat to start blaming other people. You're even confusing what the religion teaches with the Arab culture. And not all Arabs are Muslims, there are Christian and Jewish Arabs too. And not All Muslims are Arabs, there are Chinese and Indian Muslims too, heck there are even American Muslims. Btw, there are tons of educated happy free Muslim female in the world, maybe if you get out of that small hole you've been living then you'll know.

It might be time for Muslims to pray to Allah for "him" to remove the stick out of their collective asses.

  50. Kora says – reply to this

Prez you are garbage! You attack Christians with no hesitation but give Muslims a benefit of a doubt. You won't be saying anything when heads start rolling. Literally when more heads get chopped off in the name of Allah.

  52. Rose says – reply to this

Whatever the case may be this shows what an idiot she is. Learn about the place you are at so that you won't be disrespectful and look like a fool. Then again, she obviously has no problem with looking like a fool…at all…like she acts like a fool daily.

  53. Irene says – reply to this

Why is she even showing her ankle like that? It's just weird! Is she lifting her leg to piss or something'? What an odd bird! Not saying she should piss there I just want to know why she's lifting her leg!

  54. Gee says – reply to this

Re: Irene – and why not? I don't get your point here..

  57. Joulia zarzour says – reply to this

I am sure it was a mistake cause Selena Gomez is much more bigger than to do such things I mean against Muslim laws cause if she want to and it's obviously not, she would post most of the pics as this one.but I repeat it is an accident and she didn't mean it .

Re: ana – So… are you saying that Alla has something against Joy?

  59. 59

Re: harleymutt – She is already doing so by wearing that disgusting symbol of the misogynist religion: that ugly dark covering.. I think it is a nice touch showing her ankle to assure us she is not one of them. Think of her ankle as a thumbs up for freedom from enforced bondage of women. I wonder if they required all Blacks to wear shackles because it was their "religion" or " culture" if you would see the same concession from Black visitors there?

  60. A muslim girl says – reply to this

Are you kidding me perez? From where do you get your sources!!!! I dont think selena was AS disrespectful to muslims as this article is!!!!! Laughing and smiling is not banned or a " no no" in mosques you idiot. The second thing, a mosque is a place of worship! And selena didnt just expose her ankle! Her whole pose is sexualizing in a place we call the house of God!!!!! I hope you get it now

  61. eman yousef says – reply to this

Ok tale is that Islam is not as you think .you should not talk and you do not know anything

Islam is a religion of tolerance and love and respect we respect each other and respect other religions also

Laugh and enjoy our lives, but limits. I'm from Egypt, there are Muslims and Christians and love each other so much and we respect each other and celebrate the festivals of each and

We love Selena. But does not allow that you enjoy in a place where people worship and pray in

Mosque, a place of worship and prayer only

    They must respect this

    This is everything

    We are not angry

Just tell them what is right and I think you need to learn the truth about our religion

And not, as the media says

And I am sure you are going to love it

  62. Meg says – reply to this

Re: JB – Actually, my friend, the Islamic religion promotes nonviolence and respect towards women.

It may have been an honest mistake, but she should've known better. That was completely disrespectful

  65. khushy says – reply to this

What ?! That's just plain stupid this is why people judge Muslims and assume stuff so quickly please before u say Suttin study Islam Laughing and smiling is a good thing Islam especially smiling our prophet advises us to always smile my name is as khushy which means happiness and I'm MUSLIM

Re: BeautifulKiller – oh fuck you

  68. Kira says – reply to this

It would be a little bit harder to tell if she was standing normally, but with her ankle popped like that, it really does seem like a sign of disrespect.

  69. Em says – reply to this

Re: JB – Um? Islam does not prohibit its women from going to school or driving. First do your research about a religion before criticizing it. Its wise to keep your mouth shut if you dont know a thing about the religion. I could say the same thing about other religions and how Christians/ Jews are no good people but I would be generalizing which is what most of you ignorant people do.

  70. F says – reply to this

Sorry but you are wrong. The problem isn't the ankle showing. It's that she's INSIDE the mosque, which is considered the house of God. Once she's out, she can wear whatever she wants. Pls stop spreading wrong info, when you obviously know nothing about the religion itself. You only believe whatever the media feeds you….. pathetic and sad.

  71. Ft says – reply to this

Re: BeautifulKiller – fuck you.. Respect our religion as we respect yours…you get that? Every place has a rule..shout in a library do you think you will be respected you bastards?? We never say your religion is wrong in anyway so motherfucking bitches RESPECT ISLAM… We'll see who burns in hell fire when the time comes;D pityyyyy

  72. Ft says – reply to this
