More Upsetting Details About Leelah Alcorn's Life Have Surfaced On Her Social Media Accounts

Following her suicide early Sunday morning, more of Leelah Alcorn's online activity has come to light, and it's pretty upsetting.

Not only was her suicide note emotional enough, but her past social media posts have unearthed a whole new level of sadness that she was living with.

We already knew that she wasn't a part of the most hospitable home, but her activity on Reddit has added even more pain to her death.

In a post regarding her parents, she said:

"They would say things like 'You'll never be a real girl,' or 'What're you going to do, f**k boys?' or 'God's going to send you straight to hell.' These all made me feel awful about myself, I was christian at the time so I thought that God hated me and that I didn't deserve to be alive. I cut myself at least once every couple days, and I was constantly thinking about suicide."

And when asked about how her parents reacted to her sexuality, she said:

"They took me out of public school, took away my phone and computer, and wouldn't let me on social media websites, so I was out of contact with any of my friends. I was like this for 5 months, completely and utterly alone. I wasn't allowed to talk to anyone outside of church and I wasn't allowed to be with any of my friends, I just had to stay in my house and be quiet."

This is all just so sad.

No one deserves this kind of treatment, especially a child.

Rest in peace, Leelah.

HE was born a MALE and will be referred to as a MAN/BOY.

"What are you going to do fuck boys?" Nice. From a "Christian" parent. For that question alone they ought to be ostracized forever.

it's so disgusting when drivers and operators of trucks, trains and other vehicles are used as unwilling participants in someone's suicide. these people are scarred by this and it's not fair to do this to them.

I spent years working with young teens online and my take on all of this is that no one should take what is said on social media at face value. Kids exaggerate and sometimes out and out lie. The parents should not be judged by what this person wrote on social media. I am not making judgements on either side since we are only seeing a glimpse of what may or may not have happened. What I will say though is that it can be extremely difficult for a parent to accept something like this especially if you are religious and feel to the core of your being it is wrong. Personally I would find a way as a parent to come to terms with it but I will admit I would have a really hard time with it.

Re: SMH – SHE was born a MALE but is actually a FEMALE and should have been referred to as a WOMAN/GIRL. No one chooses to be ridiculed by their family, it's not her fault that she was born in the wrong body.

Re: SMH – if 'he' wants to be prefer as a female then she prefers as female. Is that really hard to ask..

Re: speaking – I agree 100% everyone is acting like this child is a martyr, but what about the poor guy that will have to live with what he witnessed and unwillingly did. He was a very selfish kid for doing that to an innocent person. A lot of growing up he had yet to do. I feel sorry for his parents honestly.

Re: SMH – YOU were born a PIECE OF SHIT and will be referred to as a TURD/HOT LOAD.

i'm laughing but really. a trans girl commits suicide and all you have to say are cruel (and frankly incorrect) things like this? what troubles you?

His parents did the exact right thing with him. Josh clearly had a gender disorder, and like autism and other born defects, need therapy to cope with the disorder and the depraved urge to act like a female, which he will never be.

  14. trey says – reply to this

I agree. I feel sorry for his parents too. They sound like decent people trying to guide their son on the right path. He sounded like a hell spawn, and behaved like one. Look how selfish he is by dragging the truck driver into his personal drama. If he lived, he would have grown up into a psychopath.

I would like to say thank you for referring to her as a "her" and calling her by the name SHE chose. Being a mother is about accepting your child no matter the decisions, and to love them unconditionally. It is not ours or her mothers place for judgment. Only one judge and one jury.

If there is nothing like it yet, there should also be a hotline or phone number that they can call, for kids that are not getting the support they need from their parents or home or school, who just realized they are transgender or gay. They need someone to speak with, someone who has been through what they are just going through, someone who can talk them into waiting until they are of legal age to make changes in their lives, to tell them that there is hope and that there is so much more in their future.
