GLAAD Chastises TLC For Their Show My Husband's Not Gay & Inadvertently Publicize It!

This was necessary, but such poor timing!

TLC is airing a new show called, My Husband's Not Gay. It follows Mormon couples, where the man in the relationship is attracted to other men. They make it clear that this is unacceptable in their religion, so they're choosing to try and pray the gay away.

GLAAD took notice, and though the trailer has been out for weeks, they made a statement and a petition about it only five days before it was set to premiere!

The statement reads:

"This show is downright irresponsible. No one can change who they love, and, more importantly, no one should have to. By investing in this dangerous programming, TLC is putting countless young LGBT people in harm's way."

Naturally, TLC responded with a statement of their own, saying:

"TLC has long shared compelling stories about real people and different ways of life, without judgment. The individuals featured in this one-hour special reveal the decisions they have made, and speak only for themselves."

That is a good point.

But the worst part about the show is that it's saying that people can allegedly choose whether or not to be gay, which is just so untrue.

As for the petition, it's calling for the special to be pulled off of the air, since it's thought that it's a backdoor pilot to turn it into a TV series. So far, a petition on Change.org has 81,000 signatures.

You can see the trailer for the show (below), and if you're interested in signing the petition, you can do so HERE.

I dont see the problem here. The man is making his own choices in life and chooses his wife and religion. What happened to diversity and tolerance?

"Zoe Saldana - "If I wake up and I want to be with a woman, I'll do that because it is my life, therefore it is my decision.""

How come this quote is praised by the, the Gay gustapo but when a gay man decides to be with a women there are protests?

    Cant have it both ways

I'm not going to comment on this subject of homosexuality and, I will never be watching this show because TLC is a channel, I mean it is that toddler tart show, right? Anyway, here's a thought though…a LOT of people have sexual fantasies, they never act upon. I mean that's right, right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do. I've heard others do. So, what is 'wrong' with this show? What is wrong with saying a sexual fantasy doesn't mean you 'are' that thing?

I am not an authority on the subject by any means, but the other day I was reading a quote by Cynthia Nixon who is married to a lady. She says that for HER, homosexuality was a choice. People, please stop generalizing and be tolerant of other's opinions, (especially the ones one does not agree with!). Not every gay person has the same experience. I certainly do not see anything wrong with the show, and may watch.

By sending the message that gays can and should change, it fans the flame of religious-based bigotry. Yes, they have "religious reasons" not to "act out" on their same-sex attractions, but sadly, it's at the expense of truth and their wives. And if your husband is attracted to guys, and not you, then I'm going to go out on a limb: Yes, your husband is gay. Bryan Christopher Author, "Hiding from Myself: A Memoir"

Has anyone thought that this show will actually show just how harmful and sad it is to repress the most essential part of you? Or maybe the show will highlight how oppressive and unfair people can be to each other, regardless of their choices or the cards they are dealt. It seems to me, there are so many ways to judge people, and yet all religions and all basic tenants of moral behaviour touted by non-religious all say you shouldn't judge another. Maybe the show will bring some people to that realisation. If that's the case, so be it.

I agree with Dave. A lot is being said about the "point" of the show when it hasn't even aired yet. Certainly when I read about it just now I got a dark undertone and thought it would show people in denial, not people making empowering choices. Either way, who are we to say what will be taken away from the show? I think it will clearly show some unhappy people and if LGBT youth watch it I would hope they would take it as an example of what not to do and to just be true to themselves. I don't think airing this show means TLC has an opinion on the subject one way or another.

But the real story here is on these guys agenda to support their business:
