Did You Miss Wednesday Night's Penultimate Episode Of American Horror Story!? Have No Fear, Because We Have A Recap For You — In GIFs!!
Obligatory ** SPOILER*** warning: If you didn't watch Wednesday night's episode of American Horror Story then STOP reading right now!
We're slowly getting to the finale of Freak Show, and this week's episode left us with even more deaths.
This might be the bloodiest season ever!
The episode starts off with a strong cold open where the freaks show Stanley (Denis O'Hare) the now-decapitated head of the museum curator, alerting him to Maggie's (Emma Roberts) betrayal. Knowing that he's been found out, Stanley tries to escape the circus tent, but is surrounded by the freaks and suffers the same fate as Cleopatra from the show's source material, Freaks.
It's then up to Maggie to tend to Jimmy's (Evan Peters) wounds. And while she does her best to bandage his arms, he can't help but blame her for bringing death to their family. Maggie then confesses her love to Jimmy, letting him know that while she may have lied, her feelings for him were real.
But this is where the episode takes a turn. The axeman (Danny Huston), from Coven, walks straight into Elsa's (Jessica Lange) tent… and she recognizes him!
Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson) are then seen having sex, again, with Chester (Neil Patrick Harris). After the deed is done, Marjorie (Jamie Brewer) confirms what we all already knew: NPH was actually the killer, not the inanimate toy.
The freaks then (somehow) jump to the correct conclusion that Elsa was behind Ethel's (Kathy Bates) death, and vow to kill her.
Dandy (Finn Witrock) FINALLY gets some screen time as he tries to reclaim the twins. And while he's crazy, he actually tried to show them the truth about Chester, but they wouldn't listen!
It turns out
the axeman Masimo is in town to get Jimmy some new hands, and, as it turns out, he's the man who got Elsa her legs. We get our third crossover of the season by meeting a younger Dr. Hans Gruber AKA Dr. Arden (James Cromwell) from Asylum, who tortured the soul out of the axeman.
Maggie then, stupidly, volunteers to be NPH's assistant in the show, and experiences the first truly startling death of the season — getting sawed in half!
The rest of the episode goes downhill from there, featuring everyone making decisions that are uncharacteristic for themselves:
Jimmy all of a sudden stops caring about Maggie, Desiree (Angela Bassett) turns her back on Maggie, the twins suddenly feel loyal to Elsa, and Ryan Murphy gives up on about his audience.
The episode ends with Stanley being alive as the new Meep, and Elsa selling the freak show to Dandy, which could actually lead to a really fun last couple of episodes!
While the start of the episode was some of the best AHS in a while, the last act was nowhere near as entertaining.
Rest in peace, Emma.
May you find better work on Scream Queens.
Don't forget to come back next week for our final American Horror Story recap of the season!
