Are you ready??
Get that pen and paper ready — or your finger to copy and paste — you're going to need it!
Here are the Do's and Don'ts of V-Day gifting:
"Give your significant other their gift a day early (on February 13th) with a handwritten note or card that reads… 'No one as special as you should have to wait another day!'"
"Never buy a gift that is alive or one that should be and isn't! (Any type of pet…. Snakeskin boots!) Your gift may well outlast you in their life."
"Be careful of playing 'I can top that!' If you expect to receive a gift in the $50 range, you should not exceed a $75 purchase in return. It may make them feel as if their gift was inferior to yours and thus not appreciated."
"Never buy a gift that infers that at some point and time they will be using it on you. (Back massager… new cookware… tickets to attend something you'd love to see not that he/she would love to see, etc.)"
"For veteran couples…. recreate your first date down to the last detail, if possible. It may spark thoughts and feelings that were once thought to be gone forever or at least put on hiatus."
"If you give gift cards (which is fine to places or stores they enjoy) do it in a creative way such as giving them 'Date Dice' so they can 'Bet On Love.' Buy an oversized pair of dice and affix a gift card or dating idea to each numbered spot. This way you create the potential for 6-12 future dates together and part of the date is already covered."
"Celebrate the holiday over the course of 14 days by giving one small, creative, inexpensive gift each day from February 1-14. It could be a small gift that you buy, a food that you make or a service that you provide (foot rub…back rub…go shopping and not complain :-) )"
"At all costs avoid a cliche' box of chocolates and a dozen red roses. If you look up the definition of 'mailing it in' you will find their picture there. Both are fine to give, but go with beautiful hybrid roses or flowers and make sure the chocolate is unique in taste or in style of presentation."
"For gifts, experiences beat gifts every time. We often remember taking a wonderful trip to a place we loved and enjoyed, but we rarely remember a lot about the material possessions we took with us. Try a one tank trip…a day at a spa… a pamper day… take them out of their every day routine and lifestyle. Take a cooking class together… HOT YOGA… the laughter alone would be worth it."
"There are several websites that offer you the ability to create for them their own unique scent (cologne or perfume). You can create the scent, name it, choose the presentation and logo… talk about a thoughtful gift. Their own brand of perfume or cologne."
