Oh, did we mention the statue is down on all fours, snorting lines of cocaine???
Yup, Plastic Jesus is making some pretty obvious commentary in his newest piece titled: Hollywood's Best Party.
Nick Stern, a photographer who works with the street artist, said:
"The piece is intended to draw attention to Hollywood's hidden problem of drug addiction that effects hundreds of people in the showbiz industry and is largely ignored until the death of a high profile A list celebrity."
That sounds just like a year ago, when Plastic Jesus installed an 8-foot tall Oscar statuette with a needle in his arm after the tragic heroin death of Philip Seymour Hoffman.
John Kim, a Hollywood drug addiction specialist, said:
"Plastic Jesus is highlighting a dark vein that's always covered with designer clothes in Tinseltown. Drug use, prescription pills, and addiction continues to run rampant and take talented lives. It is swept under the red carpet because we have a need to see celebrities as being "perfect." I wonder if we started to see them as real people, would actually roll up their sleeves and show us their scars? Maybe the way in is street art? I don't know, but that door needs to be kicked open."
We couldn't agree more!!
When taboo topics like this are spoken about in the open, they become less taboo and easier to deal with.
We're not saying all of L.A. should go to rehab… but we're not NOT saying it either! LOLz!
Seriously though, drugs are a real problem and if you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, there are always outlets, like Recovery.org.
