We're so happy the dress is safe and sound!
Lupita Nyong'o's Oscars dress was the talk of the town last Sunday night, and then it became the talk of the town for a whole different set of reasons when it was stolen!
But the custom Calvin Klein dress was brought back to the London West Hollywood hotel, where it was stolen from, on Friday by the thieves responsible for the theft.
And the criminals, reporting it from an anonymous call, claim the pearls on the dress were appraised and found to be worthless.
That's right! The culprits took two pearls from the dress to have them appraised, and it turned out they weren't real! A source connected with Francisco Costa, Women's Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection, explained:
"Did anyone ever say they were real from Calvin Klein? I always assumed everyone knew they were fake, but I guess not. Do they really make dresses out of real jewels since Cleopatra died?"
Ha! Wow! We wouldn't have guessed!
And while the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office is conducting an investigation into the whole matter, there are a couple of folks who are REALLY happy about the return of the dress.
First is happy is Francisco Costa, who released a statement that said:
"This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita and the dress looked truly exquisite on her. Once it's returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand."
The other person who is very happy is Lupita herself!

The actress released a statement, exclaiming:
"I'm happy that it has been potentially recovered. It is a timeless and priceless piece of art."
We have an inkling that the thieves involved in this situation would argue over the priceless part since they weren't able to make any money from their illegal activities!
But the most important part of this story is definitely this now infamous dress's recovery and hopefully folks will be able to lock it up safe and sound in a museum or archive where no one will be able to steal it… even if the pearls were admittedly fake!
Still, how the thieves were able to snag it so seemingly effortlessly is beyond us!!!
