Winter is continuing its frozen assault against the East Coast and it's latest victim is an airplane!!
A jet full of people skidded right off a runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York this morning.
When trying to land in a serious mix of winter weather, the plane skidded the length of a runway, ran out of road and crashed into a fence!
Thankfully no one was seriously injured.
There were 125 passengers and five crew members aboard Delta flight 1086 when it touched down at 11:05am and skidded into the fence. One of the plane's wings was apparently leaking fuel after the crash but not enough to cause any emergencies.
LaGuardia airport is now shut down, staying closed until 7pm tonight.
On top of the already 3-inches of snow that was on the ground when the plane landed, there was also a freezing fog spotted near the airport. That could've easily made runway conditions incredibly slick.
Delta released a statement:
"Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe. Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident."
We have a feeling they'll eventually find the weather was a big factor in the accident…
Mainly we're just glad that no one was seriously hurt!!
