Robert Jason Owens is the prime suspect in the murders of The Next Food Network Star contestant Cristie Schoen Codd, who was pregnant at the time of her death, and her husband Joseph T. Codd and an arrest warrant document has shed new light on this case.
A press conference held by Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan on Friday was where the information was shared that Owens had admitted to killing Joseph Codd by hitting him with his pickup truck although North Carolina police did NOT specify how Cristie died who was five months pregnant at the time.
Police also revealed that Owens had hid part of their bodies inside a woodstove in his home. Owens admitted that he "stored and destroyed" the two bodies.
"We were able to recover what we think are human remains. Part of those were recovered from a woodstove at the residence."
Owens had apparently done contractor work on the Codd's house which is how he knew the couple. He was charged on Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of murder of an unborn child, and breaking and entering and larceny.
Authorities now believe the Cristie and Joseph Codd were murdered on March 12th and Owens was later arrested on Sunday after an he was seen doing some "suspicious dumping" of items that are now believed to have belonged to the Codd family.
He later admitted to storing and destroying the bodies although it is not yet known if he admitted to both killings, as well.
