Jennifer Lopez Says 'There Will Never Be Another Selena' In Response To The 20th Anniversary Of The Singer's Tragic Death
We still can't believe she's gone.
Selena Quintanilla, the "Queen of Tejano" music tragically died after being fatally shot on March 31, 1995 by the former president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar.
Although she hasn't been with us in 20 years to the day, her presence is still sorely missed.
Jennifer Lopez, who portrayed Selena in the eponymous biopic, remembered and honored her in a recent interview with Billboard. Be ready with some tissues, because you're about to be an emotional wreck.
Here's what the American Idol judge had to say about the singer's lasting influence, and her irreplaceability:
"It has always bugged me that people would try to think that there's a ‘next Selena.' It's like saying there's another James Dean or Marilyn Monroe. People like that don't come along every day. There is never going to be another Selena. It's a special thing that Selena had. That's why we're still talking about her 20 years later."
We couldn't have put it better.
Selena was one of a kind, and had an impact that can't be replicated.
Rest in peace, Selena.
