He's False Advertising Rob Lowe, and he has DirecTV!

One of the funniest commercials on TV these days are DirecTV's ads with the HIGlarious alter egos of Rob Lowe. His alter egos are anything from creepy Rob Lowe, muscle-head Rob Lowe, painfully awkward Rob Lowe and so on.

But not everyone is laughing at the advertisements starring the 51-year-old, specifically Comcast! The cable titan filed a complaint that the DirecTV commercials were misleading!

The National Advertising Division looked into the matter and found that DirecTV's claims that they provide "shorter customer service wait times" and "better signal reliability than cable" were "unsupported."

In response, DirecTV basically called the National Advertising Division out for not having a sense of humor! The company had this to say about the division's findings:

"[DirecTV] continues to believe that the various Rob Lowe advertisements are so outlandish and exaggerated that no reasonable consumer would believe that the statements being made by the alter-ego characters are comparative or need to be substantiated."

So, they're saying false advertising is cool as long as it's funny?

The National Advertising Division suggested that DirecTV pull the ads altogether, but their suggestions aren't legally binding. The Lowe ads have been a huge success for the DirecTV, but reportedly the company already had planned to end the ads in April.

Maybe DirecTV should take Rob Lowe's advice when he says "don't be like this me."
