The people of El Lay constantly have to worry about elaborate street parking regulations. But now, certain residents have one more parking restriction to stress about — specifically, the Kardashians!
A local street artist bolted seven signs around the Hollywood area that read: 'No Kardashian Parking Anytime.' This included a few on Melrose Ave, and even one outside the Kardashian-owned store DASH. LOLz!
The artist, Plastic Jesus, was inspired while stuck in traffic on Melrose Avenue because the paparazzi swarmed to a storefront as one of the Kardashian sisters walked out. The artist had this to say about his newest art piece:
"The Kardashian family has become ingrained in our culture. We've allowed mainstream media to become so profit-driven, we are sacrificing genuine news stories to satiate our vapid celebrity obsessions. I guarantee that same number of paparazzi was far greater than any number of photographers chasing real news."
This isn't Plastic Jesus's first Hollywood-targeted art installment. He was behind the controversial sculpture of the Oscar statue snorting cocaine on Hollywood Boulevard right before the Academy Awards in February.
The artist also created the 'Stop Making Stupid People Famous' campaign. When asked if his 'No Kardashian Parking' installment was a part of that lobby, Plastic Jesus explained:
"Stop Making Stupid People Famous often gets blogged as a criticism of the Kardashians. But that piece is also meant to criticize us as consumers. Without us, there would be no market for the Kardashians. We are equally, if not more so, to blame."
Inneresting… it's no surprise we can't get enough of the Kardashians, as the family of media titans expertly provides plenty of material on a daily basis.
Even if you don't agree with Plastic Jesus's claims, his satirical art installations have definitely been sparking conversations about the entertainment industry!
