Valery Spiridonov, a 30-year-old computer scientist from Russia, is willing to put his life on the line for a "world's first" operation.
He'd be literally sticking his neck out for Dr. Sergio Canavero, who some in the medical community have called "nuts."
That's because Dr. Canavero wants to perform the world's first HEAD TRANSPLANT!!
Why would anyone volunteer for that?? Spiridonov would because he's wheelchair bound, with a rare, genetic, degenerative muscular disease called Werdnig-Hoffman.
"Am I afraid? Yes, of course I am, but it is not just very scary but also very interesting… you have to understand that I don't really have many choices. I am now 30 years old, although people rarely live to more than 20 with this disease."
With Dr. Canavero claiming that in this day and age, we can totally pull off a head transplant, we understand that might seem like a lucrative option to someone with a broken body.
The donor would be a brain dead patient and technically, while super freakin' tough, it could be pulled off.
But the operation would likely cost upwards of $10,000,000! We wonder if they'll ever actually try it…
Would U ever consider such an intense operation?? Let us know below!!
