Haters gonna hate!
In a recent interview, Empire's Jussie Smollet talked about the backlash against the show, and critics who claim that the show is homophobic.
"I think it's said by people that haven't seen the show, and if even if they have seen the show, they haven't really watched it, and if they watched it, they haven't open up their minds to the fact that he's not the story, he's a story. And the fact that yes we're tackling homophobia in the black community and the hip hop community. That's because we're dealing with a black family in the hip hop community. Let it show, this is not an isolated incident. Homophobia is a human epidemic."
We think that just because the show tackles homophobia, doesn't mean that show is necessarily homophobic.
We love the character of Jamal Lyon!
