David Letterman has been the host of The Late Show for over two decades!
But the long time host will be calling it quits on May 20th with apt replacement Stephen Colbert waiting in the wings.

However, Dave revealed that he had a couple of ideas of his own on who might have replaced him. Some progressive ideas!
Here's what he said:
"I thought, Well, maybe this will be a good opportunity to put a black person on, and it would be a good opportunity to put a woman. There are certainly a lot of very funny women that have television shows everywhere. So that would have made sense to me as well."
And while the soon-to-be former Late Show host believes the selection of Colbert was a "good choice," he was a little ticked off at the time that CBS didn't consult with him on who his replacement should be!
But the decision is made now. And Dave is looking to the future.
He hinted what viewers should expect from his final show, saying:
"I want it to be a little more cheery. And I want it to be upbeat, and I want it to be funny, and I want people to be happy that they spent the time to watch it."
We'll definitely be laughing and crying once the final show airs, and we'll always remember David Letterman as the king of late night hosts!
Even when he's gone, there will be no one better!!!
